hello everyone i need some help to star a program in the gym, i have been out for 3 years or 4, i fall in a sedentary style of life drinking alot and bad food. 2 weeks ago started to walk 40 minutes 3 /4 days a week, but i want to back to the gym, any help that you can adress me i will appreciate alot.
thanks

First off, congratulations on deciding to make a lifestyle change. It would help to know your previous level of experience (gym, diet, etc). What are your goals (weight loss, etc)? Having said that, the diet and exercise plan that will work best for you is the one you can stick to. If it's not something you can do consistently day in and day out, no plan will help you reach your goal and keep it.

You should get back in a good routine of diet and exercise for several months or more before using drugs or steroids

Welcome back to the forum. Stay motivated, and like said above, dial in your diet and training for a while before moving to there next step of supplementation. Keep us updated as you make your way through.

Hello Alex,

I can relate. I used to be highly involved in the sport of bodybuilding owning three different companies in the industry. I fell off the band wagon five years ago. The main thing to do is focus on life changes. Get your diet dialed in, and get in the gym. Those two steps will help tremendously. I also found going to the gym in the PM was best for me. I then had to chose between drinking or the gym. Let me know if you have any questions.

It's not easy, but it's worth the effort.. I'm 67, I decided basically the same thing 8 years ago and got started, baby steps at first. For me the thing that really got me into the zone and helped the most was to find a really good personal trainer. I needed the have to go now commitment when I had appointments and I had to be there, no excuse, I had to go. Gradually that turned into wanting to go and putting off anything that interfered.

Be careful about injury, your body is not the same now as it was when you were 20. Everything takes longer and more work injuries are more likely. Push, but when you feel pain back off.. Pay attention to what your body is saying or feeling. And by all means have fun and enjoy every minute, you never get a minute back, once you spend that minute it is gone forever. Make them count!

Solidassears already gave some excellent advice. Get a personal trainer that can evaluate your current situation and help you meet your goals. Whether it be strictly weight loss, body recomp, adding muscle, etc. They are worth the little extra money, especially when starting.

Without knowing your current stats, previous experience, future goals, etc, anything anyone tells you is just going to be a shot in the dark.

Finding balance and sustainability is key.

The best diet that works is one you can stick to.

The best training that works is one you can stick to and enjoy.

Keep the cardio regular, start eliminating fast food and eating out and, prepare your own meals.

Find healthy foods you enjoy and different ways to season and make them do you don't get burnt out.

Keep track of progress with pictures so you can look back and see how you're progressing. We see ours every day so the changes that do happen are often over looked and motivation can fall.

I would continue on your own until you're settled a little better before hiring a coach or trainer. I get clients all the time so are ready to set the world on fire when they first sign up with me but, a few weeks later they dissappear and wasted their money.
