Hey, I have a question. I know it will differ for everyone and there's no way to predict an exact answer, but in general, say you can complete a 5x5 with a certain weight for overhead presses, with 2 minute rests between the sets and the 5th rep of the 5th set being a tough rep, how many reps would you be able to get with that weight in an all out set where you went for as many reps as possible with that same weight? About 8-9 reps maybe? Thanks.

If your doing thr 5x5 program right you should only be able to do 5 reps or less unless its your first or second week in. Other then that the weight catches up to you pretty fast during the program.

^^^^^^^This exactly! Ur not training hard enough buddy...

TheJaboronLifter instead of trying to make your own 5x5, try Bill Starr's.
Bill Starr 5x5 - Madcow Intermediate or Linear Version

And this is one of my favorite programs !! All of my lifts went up about 40 lbs. I still use it and have actually modified some of his workouts an it's perfect. I was all natty at the time and still am. Here is proof ahhh nevermind the forum wont let me upload pics at this time .

Sorry, my thread title/OP weren't clear enough. I'm not actually doing a 5x5 routine, I was just wondering if you can get 5 sets of 5 reps with a certain weight, then generally how many reps could you get in a rep out set witht he same weight?

This is correct. The weight catches up to you pretty fast man. Good luck with your training

I think he means:
On your first set of 5, instead of stopping at 5, if you went for max reps, how many reps could you get?
e.g. You're doing 5x5, and you're using 250 lbs. A friend watching you says "Only 5 reps? I can do 8 reps with 250." Do you bet you can do 9 reps the next time you see him at the gym?
For me it's 8 reps. Maybe 9 if I reduced my warmup sets. However I only know that number for my bench press. Squats, overhead press, deadlifts... no idea.
