what else is out there besides the IronMasters, PowerBlocks, Bowflex and reg spinner sets

leaning toward the 75lb IronMasters but want to make sure theres nothin better that wont cost a million bucks. just looking to get a decent workout at home with some dumbbells, no bodybuilder here

thanks

To be honest, so long as they can take a decent amount of punishment and hold a fair amount of weight, the exact brand doesnt matter much.

You can get a good workout with sandbags or bottles of water etc. It's not the equipment at your disposal that makes the difference, its what you do with it.

i agree but im not looking to work with sand, water or reg dumbells. im looking for something thats pretty quick and easy to change (weight wise), doesnt take up much room and will last a long time

thanks tho

They're ok I guess, but they're pretty damn expensive. If you're planning to lift for awhile they'll just become obsolete, because they don't make them heavy enough. Even if you aren't an ardent bodybuilder you'll soon run into that problem.

A cheaper alternative would be to just hit the neighborhood sporting goods store and buy a set of adjustable dumbells, and add more weight as you go.

is there a place online that has heavy stuff that all works together. ex, the handles are long enough for 100lbs per side, the weights actually fit the handles, collars fit too

thanks

Those may be good enough. Do you plan to use a bench ? Do you plan to do any leg work at all ?

was just planning on doing bench presses (one arm at a time, so id have a back up hand if need be) lying on the ground and lunges, nothing major. bought this book as a guide

but i might pick up a bench so i could incline/decline too

Yep, some adjustables would be the way to go. And you should invest in a bench, preferably one that inclines, as well as lays flat. For the price you were going to pay for the fixed DBs', this will be achievable..

Do this for awhile and you'll be ready to join a gym! :thumb:

Buying online would probably not be the best idea. Shipping and handling charges are a nightmare for this sort of thing.

I know in the UK its pretty easy to find a good set by YORK which has a barbell, dumbells, and about 100KG of weight in for a few hundred pounds.

They also do sets that come down in price and quantity. I think my first set that i bought myself was a 15KG YORK dumbell set for about £50, had two dumbells, collars, and plates.

The good thing about adjustables is that you can keep buying plates as you get stronger.

I would also look around shop windows/newspaper buying and selling sections/Free-Ads etc etc to see if anybody in your local area is selling weights.

Whenever people give up training, join a gym, or move house, they never want to keep their weights around. Usually sell them off dirt cheap aswell.

Check sites like craigslist for good deals within driving distance of you.. that's where I got my barbell and plates.. great price too!

Reminds me when I sold my bench and set of weight in craigslist, I needed money fast so I practically gave it away....... Bad times
