It's like anything else in life, if you want to be able to do more, then you have to do them, and do them religously. You'll work your way up. You'll see a slight steady increase over a month, and just keep doing them. You'll gain a lot quicker if you haven't already been working out. But learn to mix up your grips, closed, wide, shoulder width, ect.. It will help build you more evenly.

Seriously, the only way to get better or increase your number of pushups is to do them. In high school I increased my pushup number from 30 to 75 in a matter of a month and a half or so. Every night before I went to bed I just did as many pushups as I could until failure. It takes time, but it works.

Another way to help is to do weighted pushups. It takes some getting used to, but you take the olympic plates and lower them onto your back (or have a partner do it for you) and bang out as many as you can. Start with a 10 or 25 on your back and work your way up. This will help you with simple bodyweight pushups too. Hope this helps.

When I'm at home, I do 20 pushups every 30 minutes (if I actually remember, it's a bitch). Each set is small yes, but your overall volume is very high over the course of a day considering you would do 100 pushups over the course of every 150 minutes.

Are you for real? Actually not a bad idea, bit of overkill, but why not?

Yea, you've just got to train for it.

Being able to do 20 push-ups will hardly help you bench more though..

It's overkill if you do it everyday, 2-3 days a week depending on your weight training and other activities is plenty.

work on your chest and tri work in the gym. flat bench, incline dumbell, etc. that will boost your push ups by a lot.

Yea I do weird shit like that when I'm bored.

Getting stronger will help to a certain point. The lower the percentage of your 1RM that a bodyweight pushup is, the more you should be able to do, up to a certain point. So, traditional pressing movements and weighted pushups should help in this regard.

Improving endurance will also help. Higher repetition sets with short rest periods will help you improve local muscular endurance with the muscles in question.

Also, losing weight will help big time. Obviously, the less weight you have to move the more times you can move it.

Iron Dungeon - Pushups - How to do 100+ Pushups just follow the program if you can do like 30-40 pushups in a row. if you cant do 30-40 yet, do as many as you can in a set every other day and just add one more each day. or whatever.

also I find that handstands helped my ability to do pushups
