I over hurd two people at the gym saying that your abs can be worked out every day, they don't need a break like other muscles do. Is this true or should you just do abs every other day?

Abs are muscle just like any others, and should be worked as such. They are a smaller muscle, so you can work them more, but more than 2-3 times a week is probably overkill.... Plus, don't neglect doing them with weight and in lower rep range rather than just situps and such.

You can work out all muscles everyday - but that does not mean it is optimal for any type of gains eg. strength, hypertrophy, endurance, whatever.

Exercising abs is like all other muscles - you use progressive resistance to tear them up, you rest to rebuild them, repeat.

What you guys would suggest to work out abs ? For me I like to do leg-rise, probably once a day 10 rep. :hmmm:

I do sit ups with a med ball with a buddy 4 sets of 30, then Leg throw downs with a friend 4 sets of 30 and finaly i find a flat bench and do the leg ext crunch 4 sets of 30!

You need to do something weighted so you can progress and you need to rest. Doing the same thing every day for 10 reps will not do anything for you.

Most of your major exercises will work the abs - so direct ab work may not even be necessary for you depending on the rest of your routine.

Thanks for your advice.

I do that leg rise when I am return home from work only, since I do not go to gym regularly. Also I will do 10 - 20 reps pull-up at the same time for my shoulder .

Anyway I will try to do some sit-up.

abs are an interesting muscle like calves, forearms, and to some extent the anterior delts ( can u believe some 'experienced' 60 year old trainer referred to the rear or posterior delts as anterior ? know your terms before you use em folks ) because they get involved in just about every exercise to some extent.

working them every day is of no benefit to you.

Don't do the same exercises everyday. Abs are just like any other muscle and need some recovery time. If you train them everyday, train different areas.
