Hey guys, I was wondering whether do you all have any good tips that can help strengthen doing Pull Ups (increasing the reps). Whenever I do 4 sets of it, I can only do 8 reps, 6, and 2 x 4 respectively. All with great form but that's the best amount I can do. My Pulldowns and Rows have improve nicely, but my Pull Ups are always staying the same, if not gone even weaker.

Any good tips?

rest-pause reps have worked well for me, especially if i'm trying to increase strength.pick a moderate-heavy weight and do single reps with a pause between reps of anywhere between 10-60 sec depending on the difficulty of the exercise.for chins i like 20 sec rest intervals.another way to increase your volume, is to do lots of low rep sets.i use to get tired very quickly from doing chins, as my biceps would give out.doing 6-8 sets of 5 reps each helped build up my chinning strength.

And have your spotter help you do some negs. Are you doing pull downs and pull ups on the same day?? If so, do you thinks it's necessary??

well if your gaining weight each week wouldnt that be like increasing the weight so it doesnt matter if reps increase.. something like that?

Skyliner are you doing your pull ups at the end of your workout. Try mixing your workout up by doing your pull ups at the beginning of back day.

Do heavy weighted nagatives. Get a bench tall enough to get you in the full up position, bring your feet up behind you and slowly lower yourself. I try to lower myself to a 4 count.

Do your first set with a very wide grip. On each succesive set, move your grip in by about one hand space. This will increase your mechanical advantage and possibly allow for more even sets in terms of reps...and will also stress the back a little differently with each set.

Chin up tips
Are you doing your chinups to your chest using a medium under hand grip or are you doing your chinups using a wide over hand grip. At my best I could do 15 chinups wide grip to the back of my neck. For inspiration I recall reading the old Muscle Builder/Power magazines with Arnolds article on how he built his lats wider than a jumbo jet. Those lats could fly. Also the old Muscle Builder?Power magazines were real bodybuilding magazines with excellent articles on the champs, Zane, Robby Robinson, Franco, Arnold, to name a few. I wish I could get my hands on some of those issues they were classics. Alot better than this so called Muscle and Fitness. Weider sold himself out for the almighty buck, sure Flex is probably closer to Builder Power but anyway sorry for getting off track.
Back to chinup tips. Experiment with wide versus narrow, and overhand versus underhand. Have you tried using chinup straps these can also help you get in more repetitions.
Another factor to consider is how much you weigh?
If any of this helps send reply.
PS Anyone have any Muscle Builder?power issues for sale from the 1970s ?

Just do as many as you can.

You'll get better.

I love doing pullups.
