So last week I went to get my drivers license renewed and couldn't pass the eye test. So I go to an optometrist and get an exam. All my life I had 20/20 vision and suddenly they tell me I have astigmatism!?! Got my prescription glasses today and holy fuck I just went from Iphone version one to Retina Display. Only thing is my eyes feel wore out after wearing my glasses all day and when I walk I feel like I'm walking on a water bed. You guys have any tips to help me get used to these things? Oh I must say I look cool in glasses, half the people I ran into today thought I was wearing stylish glasses for the look and not because I need them. They were like, "You should wear those all the time they make you look good." I hope so, they cost me $500.00 - the 100 or so my insurance pays out.

I remember my first pair when I was 25. Same exact feeling you're having. I was amazed how crazy sharp everything appeared but every time I moved my head or shifted my sight to another object it felt like I was floating. Good news is it's only temporary. After a week of wearing them all day I got used to it. Then realized I couldn't play sports wearing them so I got contacts.

Are you able to wear contacts? They completely remove that floaty feeling but some have issues with the feel of them.

Have be wearing glasses/contacts since I was in my teens, I'm 34 now. I fucking hate it! I finally have some money saved up for LASIK eye surgery and can't wait. Glasses fall off or fog up with any activity(lifting/cardio). Then when you have to piss at night you run into shit because you are blind(I pretty much am without them). Contacts are great for a while but you always have to take them out and clean them. Then if you are to rough on them they can tear. So go to 30 day/30 night contacts you say...oh right and then I get eye infections and styes(spell?). I have been putting up with that(30 day/30 night) on and off for the last three years. Sorry for the rant, but LASIK is the way I'm going.

What else I find is that my mind has gotten a little clearer, for the last couple years I felt like I was in a fog, feeling down and everything had lost it's luster. I just thought it was mild depression or lack of sleep, stress...now I can see everything in high definition, I don't see blobs in the night sky I see distinct points of light, every star isn't a binary. Things don't look dirty or smudged...

Only drawback is now ugly people look even more ugly....

Are your glases single vision or progressive? Progressive I found big differences in quality. I have a great place to buy frames on line. thier lenses are OK but I usually buy the frames and have Sams make the lenses.. I remember my first time with progressives Like smoking weed. Took a about a week ort so to get used to them.
I like the Nikon progressives

You wll get use to them. My wife refused for years to get an eye exam. She would pull books almost to her nose to read. Same thing, she failed the DMV eye exam. turns out she had an astigmatism and near sighted. I got glasses a few years ago for reading, also. We both had the perspective weirdness at first. It goes away as you brain adjusts. If it goes longer than a few weeks, go back and have the lenses/prescription checked. Optometrists make mistakes also.

Oh the wife got the Lasik. I'm still wearing reading glasses.

As I always say, getting old is not for the weak.

I have been wearing glasses since my wife found a pair in the glove compartment......

So, Charley, how do you look wearing the pair of glasses your wife found? lol

"But, honey, they're my glasses. No, seriously. What?"

Good thing glasses are stylish now, and also that my astigmatism wasn't bad enough to need glasses in school and especially the Navy, yeesh hate to wear Birth Controls all the time, though I heard the military issues a less harsh pair now. I remember all those poor kids in boot with their Buddy Hollys on looking like 1960's tax accountants...

I started wearing glasses in the late 90's, about the time Wayfarer sun glasses were in style. Took my Air Force issue BC glasses and had the lenses tinted and viola, a custom pair of Ray Bans. :rocker:

So your gay lover wears glasses eh?

@ manic: Get contacts. Bitches don't dig a 4-eyed Clark Kent type. If you have the right look about you and you get the frameless lense type, you may be able to pull it off without looking like a total fucking dweeb douchebag who's never even kissed a girl.

Luckily geek chic is in style, so most people think I'm just wearing glasses to look like a hipster, they look awesome on me cause I was lucky enough to have an optician who was a cute chick and spend over an hour with me trying different pairs until we found the one that fits my face just right, light weight titanium semi-rimless ...can't wait to get my sunglasses...

Werd. Just effin'. I wear glasses now cause I'm out of contacts and don't want to spend the $ till I get a new gig. I got mine in China, skinny silver ear piece and frameless. I still prefer contacts tho. You might want to give them a try although they are a pain in the arse.
