As a former track runner (400m)...I still enjoying watch track meets on TV or in person...

I am a middle school track coach and we have district this week...
My 7th graders should do really well...I have a few that can be district champs and the others who should place Top 6.

This past weekend I went to Austin to watch the Tx relays...
AR women ran a 3:31 in the 4x00 relay...that is FAST for April.
When I was in college our relay ran 3:31 in June as NCAAs....lol
A&M men ran 3:01 in the 4x400 relay and down in FL, the FL men ran 3:00 flat in the 4x400 relay...these teams are leading the world...

At the end of the month I will be going home to Philly to watch the Penn Relays...very BIG meet...its like the Olympics all over again....
Good HS, college and country teams...

I like Track and Field a lot. I enjoy watching it but I don't follow it closely. I always like to watch the sports that involve one specific skill in contrast to team field sports like basketball and baseball. Watching those guys launch on the jump events is awesome.

What is the current situation with pole vaulting, are they still doing that in high schools?

I believe they do...we do it in middle school. They have to start @ 6 ft.

I am, at most, the least casual fan out there. I watch the Olympics and that's it. I can certainly appreciate what it takes to compete in that stuff though.

My high school gym teacher once pulled me aside and told me I should try out for track and field. I was all "WTF dude." In retrospect, he probably knew what he was talking about and I should have listened to him. Add that to a short list of life regrets.
