Any vegans here?

I'm not a vegan, but I don't use a lot of dairy, so i take a cal/mag supp 2-3 times a day w/ meals and take a cal/vit D supp in the morning & at night. :)

Thanks, but

'bouts a jear ago, day says on da TV news dat calcium in pill form isn't digested an' dat some jusers was gettin' osteoperosis. How cud chu knows if chor benifitin' from da pills?

i used to be vegan

Wazzup meng?!

You get more digestable calcium from certain leafy green vegetables than you do from milk or other dairy products.
You're right about the supplements, Helltaco-meng. You don't actually get the ammount of ingredients they list on the back- the same goes for most anything...... you'll probably just crap/piss it out.
If you eat foods that combine well together on a molecular level, then you will benefit more from certain foods.
Vitamin C helps Calcium absorb into your system. Several vitamins/etc. found in grains inhibit the absorbtion of calcium.... it kind of makes cereal for breakfast seem pointless.

If you are vegan and have a well rounded diet- the only things you should have to wrry about is ZIND+C and several of the B vitamins- both only found naturally, i(n great enough quantities to be of any use) in animal products.

Fortified cereals/other foods are a good source, though.

I know it works because the first time I dieted down for a contest (where I cut out all dairy) I wasn't educated enough to take cal supps. My nails became very weak and split and they were a hell of a mess. Since then, I've dieted down twice and taken cal supps and didn't have any problems whatsoever.

If you take them in several lower doses throughout the day, they will be better absorbed than if you take them all at once.

Yeah, sounds good...

for short term use, but in the long run, like having a Vegan LIFESTYLE 24/7, you may find yourself SOL.

Go to a health food store..

Maybe even GNC or something like that.... though I doubt it.
Look for something called SPIRULINA. It's made from seaweed or something like that.... It will make your hair and nails grow real strong and pretty thick- VERY QUICKLY.

SPIRULINA shakes- by a company called NATURES WEALTH(?) actually taste good- good enough to eat as a snack- good enough that you actually like what you are drinking. The shake mix is vegan, but the energy bar/snacky cakes aren't.

Also- A third party test of the levels of vitamins/minerals claimed on the nutritional information strip, proved to be incorect. The actual levels were higher- how often does that happen.

Chocolate is best.:thumb:
