Bass... what a joke. Those are trash fish, IMHO. I'm glad people like to fish for them. I just wish they would kill them and keep them in the South where they belong. I hate non native wildlife invading the good waters of the North.

You don't have to haul in a bass like your in a tournament, Lmao . They are pan fish and bass!!! It's easier than falling off a log. 4lb line for bass up to 6lbs is easy. 8lb to lose less gear from shore and for 10lb bass. Just use a live worm under a float for heavens sake. Don't make an easy job hard. Pick a limber rod Like I suggested. Longer for bigger fish. Play the fish and enjoy.

Any thought yet to what you will try to catch? Lure or bait selection kinda matter there. If you are after bigger fish then you need bigger tackle on so on.

mostly catfish and bluegills and bass(that Im guessing arent real big) that stock my grandparents pond

I also live in a city that is on the Mississippi River, so I could do some fishing there as well, and would probably go for catfish

Just go noodling for Catfish :D

Then a 10lb mono is cheap and will cover all that. If you tag into some monster cats on the river you'll wish you had heavier line lol. People might offer you advise on using 4lb-6lb line but nobody does that really. Ya'd lose too many fish and be all :pissed: .

Hog's right about the worms and a float. You will catch plenty of smaller pan fish with that rig. The only annoyance about worms is that the perch just hang out and nibble down on your bait all the time. Minnows normally catch bigger fish. If you can find a bait shop and buy a dozen er two, or better yet set a minnow trap at the pond and just keep them there on reserve, then you can use minnows and catch larger fish with greater frequency. You won't catch as many of the smaller perch as you would with the worm and float rig, but you will catch bigger fish. I guess it comes down to what you want to do on that day ... go for quantity or quality. When I bank fish I run a few rods at the same time. One I keep baited with shiners and one I tie a plug onto and work patterns with. lol ... that keeps things interesting.

I had the best luck last time I fished with wax worms, got a lot of bluegills

See there ya go. Something you know you had fun with and can do a repeat of. What did you use? The rod and reel feel right for ya? See what I'm getting at? Line weight, bait and so on makes a big difference on what you catch. Those same perch also like shrimp, and so do catfish. Same rig you used but a minor change up can make a big difference. Cats will bite on worms but not near as often as they will on shrimp.

there are a group of women that go noodling, they have their own DVD, some of'em are cute, kinda sad, women that do something i wont even attempt...aint no way....:dont:

Up here we call big fish "hawgs." Some punk jackass that didn't know his ass from a corn cob called himself Hawglander. Then came HOGLANDER. Don't you hate it when you find someone took your handle? BTW "BoneCrusher" is great for this forum. It's a feeling you get when you reach a certain level of training, BoneCrusher.

Hawg is not just a northern term, but you already know that. Thanks on the name thing. I thought it fit here too, but it's a nick someone else gave me a while back. I had the song Bonecrusher playing when I signed up here so it sorta fit. Anyway did you see the retarded rednecks fishing with tires  ?

Nice vid with great workout music to boot!!

: )

After months of trying to make a banjo out of one what else you going to do with a so many tires?

They most ignorant thing was that the enTIRE family .. three generations ... taking little 2lb'ers and talking about "get the net" By the time they finish cleaning them lil cats there will be nothing to eat. I'dda just hit the grocery store and saved myself all that :bulb:

I got myself a rod/reel combo (spinning reel) was wondering how I get the line on the reel? hahah

Slap it on there and start reeling in.

I love to fish. I fresh water fish because that's the only thing I can do here, but deep sea fishing is also great.

Freshwater for me too, I live right on the Mississippi River, but also my Grandparents own some farmland and have a man made pond that they get stocked, its a lot of fun, great camping too

Yeah, I'm not too far from the Mississippi myself, but there are a lot of lakes around here, and a few good ponds. Lots of small rivers, and some streams for trout fishing. I'm not really into trout fishing but I go once in awhile.

I don't get out often but my grandparents have a nice man-made pond on there farmland and they keep it stocked with mostly bluegills/catfish/and some bass

I would love to get out there and fish more than I do, always a blast as a campsite as well

anyways Im looking to pick up a good rod and reel on Ebay but I don't want to spend a whole lot since I don't really know what Im looking for in the first place...

any help?

fly fishing is the best thing ever
