Ok, I know we've talked about it, but I can't find it so I'll just ask...

Are apples okay on a cut? I know strawberries, blueberries, etc are okay, but I can't recall about apples. I was thinking about gettnig some vanilla protein and throwing an apple into the blender and seeing what happens. Sounds like it could be yummy in my tummy, but I'm trying to lean up that tummy!:)

Apples are supposed to be one of the best fruits GI wise, so I have green apples :)

Mmmm, I love my apples :lick: One a day keeps the doctor away! :D

apples are A number 1 OK - just about a perfect carb. Find one with a big fat worm in it and you got a full meal.

I ALWAYS include an apple a day...sometimes more...especially when cutting:)

will any apple do? or are certain kinds better than others?

hmm, so can i replace my yam or brown rice for an apple? so instead of eating chicken and a yam, could i say eat chicken and a couple of apples every now and then?

I have not read anything about different apple types, but Jodi and Fit Freak know more about diet dos and donts :) so I will let them answer.

I just happen to like green apples myself.

Actually Mudge from everything I've read and heard green apples are the best. Although I don't have an answer why, thats just what I've heard. :)

CAn the apples be taken with say a protein drink and some EFAS or would it affect the p/f combo in a negative way. too much fructose is not good for ya. Where would apple be most advantage is a cutting diet. With a protein/ EFA 2 hours before workout or just as a mid morning snack. thanks

I have heard the "green apple" argument before also. I suspect it has to do with minor differences in the sugar content of the apples - like difference between granny smith and golden delicious. I personally don't worry about it since its fairly low calories. I'd be more concerned about the size of the apple and I always get a medium one.

yum! :D Fuji apples rock! just picked some up yesterday on sale... I try and eat one as a quick little snack before meal 3/4 (mid-morning)

My favorite apple is Paula Red's :lick:

They will be ready by the beginning of next month. Probably about the time TP tells me I can't have any :p

Personally I ALWAYS go for Granny Smith:)

If anyone has any info as to why Green are better I would love to see it. I've heard the same thing but I don't know why and would love to compare. I bought golden delicious for today.

Jodi...I heard the same ingo...can't remember where...also heard that MacIntosh apples were the worst in comparison although I would assume the differences are minor. Personally I eat Granny Smith apples b/c they're my favorite variety...has nothing to do with GI or insulin response, etc. ???

Who knows......I wish I could remember where I heard that though....come to think of it the source never said why to begin with???????????

Do you people eat the skin of the apple or peel it off?

What's the nutritional value of the skin?

Eat the skin - I don't know the exact breakdown of the skin and I doubt that would be easy to find but the skin is the healthiest part. It contains alot of fiber and the pectin of the apple. :)

It if oftentimes the case that veggies have the majority of their micronutrients in the very thin area's of the skins - same with some fruits.
