Are takeaways a BIG no no?

am currently cutting and have completely cut takeaways out of my diet is this necessary?
 
It depends what it is. As a general rule franchise places ie. macdonalds, burger king, taco bell, etc. would be a definate no-no but there are fast food places, at least in my neighbourhood, that offer lean take-away of good quality.
 
once in a while you can treat yourself for progress made . . just be sensible about it . . . if I'm dieting though I avoid junk like the plague . . but bulking is a different matter

Agreed. Although, as a restaurant owner, I must say...FRANCHISES SUCK!

Next time you feel like something is a relatively safe choice, go to the restaurant's website and check the nutritional information...you will be surprised.

Well, as long as you account for the cals you can diet successfully.

I don't think eating take-out(away) is a very practical or efficient way of balancing cals throughout the day. However, it can be done.
 
If it fits your macros, then by all means.

Even if it doesn't, you have to treat yourself sometimes. Dieting and bodybuilding is about more than being ripped and lean; it's about general health -- which includes emotional health.

Like people say with refeeds, one day of eating over your maintenance calories isn't going to make you fat. Especially if you've been running a fairly heavy deficit and sticking to your diet, then I think you deserve something that isn't lean or completely productive for the body. While it may put you back a few hundred calories and 30g saturated fat, who really cares? In the long run, those occassional "cheat meals" are what will keep your satiety under control so that you can not only stick to your diet but feel good about it.

Besides, if you don't give yourself that leniency then you're just going to stress out about the foods you want to go nuts on. Which is the lesser of two evils? One 800 calories, 60g fat unproductive meal? Or, a week stressing out thinking about?

In my opinion, the leaner you are the more consistent you are with your diet, the more leniency you should give yourself in breaking your diet. I don't mean cheat every two days, but I think once a week to have a cheat meal or add cheat elements to an otherwise healthy meal.

For instance, while to some a cheat meal might be cake or McDonalds, to me it would be something like:

a toasted bagel sandwich with..

-multigrain bagel (300 calories, 60g carbs, 1.5g fat, 4g fibre, 12g protein)
-3 eggs (210 calories; 15g fat (6g saturated), 18g protein)
-some cheddar cheese (let's guess at 120 calories; 10g fat (8g saturated),
6g protein)
-4 strips bacon (cooked = 100 calories; 10g fat, 12g protein)
-organic greens
-organic roma tomatoes
-1 TBS becel margarine (70 calories; 8g fat (2g sat)

So, as you can see, there's some extra fluff to an otherwise healthy meal. However, even the "unhealthy" content has some good to it. It's just not 100% ideal. That, to me, is a cheat meal. And, because it's not absolutely terrible, I might on the same day do another similar meal (similar in that it will be primarily healthy with some non-ideal additions).

This would be a bit counterproductive to my cutting goals, but if done right you can use cheat meals to keep your willpower going steady.

As the saying goes, everything in moderation.

I have worked at a few diners, and there really is no eating healthy. Even a basic plain pasta dish has more sodium then one should consume in a sitting.

I own a local/independant restaurant...Definately not a Franchise. I'm big on freshly prepared food, and can't stand restaurants that nuke everything and plate it up as if they had a Chef working in the kitchen...which is exactly what franchises do. Sadly, most people (at least in this area) could care less about eating healthy, or even questioning how their food was prepared.....they just want to fill their gut(s). So independently owned business will sink in this economy while those who serve fake food will survive.

Franchises are excellent at marketing...terrible at telling the truth.

In my "hood" there is this Hawaian BBQ place that does some crazy ass good marinated chicken breast that is out of this world, it somes with white rice and is a nice big portion....to me, it never poised a problem eating it up to 3 times a week on my current cut.....but why in the world would someone "treat" themselves to BK or Mcdonalds and such palces EVEr is beyond me...last time I visited MCdonalds was 8 years ago in high school...nasty shit
