Artest - bigger nutjob than Rodman?

I agree that it wasn't self-defense, more along the lines of retaliation.

But the arguement that they should act like professional just because they are paid is crap. Everybody should act like professional, paid or not. Nobody was raised to throw things on anybody or was raised to hit people, without their consent.;) It's going to hard for the league to penalize the fans, but they gotta find a way, cause this issue can be a pandora box for future problems.

This problem is bigger than a Sports problem, it's a society problem.

You can't defend yourself against someone who didn't throw the beer cup. It's been conclusively prooved that Artest hit the wrong person.

What a joke. I'm glad that piece of trash is out for the season.

I think the NBA sent the right message with the suspensions. Indiana's playoff hopes are pretty much DEAD now, and that in itself is a huge punishment. They are going to SUCK this year. We're talking worse-than-Charlotte suck. GOOD, I say. I would have liked to see Artest get a full one year suspension, but this is pretty good. I think O'Neal's 25 games was too light.

Certainly, Detroit fans shoud be ASHAMED right now. They are the joke of the sports world.

In my favorite sport.........Nascar...........they shower the winner with drinks, poweraide, beer and they love it. I don't understand??? :hmmm: :D

And what a wonderful day it was Sunday. Ford won the Race and Ford won they 2004 championship!

Ive had a lot worse than a little cup of beer thrown at me and I didnt go and chase the guy down. Sure the fans who do that are morons, and they need to be handled accordingly... but so many of the players (like Artest) are just a bunch of spolied little kids who are used to getting anything they want. He makes millions of dollars a year to play basketball. Not to long ago, African Americans who got paid zilch for their hard working jobs got sprayed with fire hoses during peaceful protests and didnt retaliate. Theres no excuse for an overpaid jackass like Artest to do what he did.

Boy, he sure showed the fans whos boss!

He's not crazy, he just hasn't left the "Hood" behind him.

Most of these players are spoiled because of the fans, how ironic it may sound.

There is no excuse for Artest, but there is no excuse for the fans either. I don't care if you make a billion dollars a year, or you still trying to survive off of minimum wage, everybody should be "professional".

I'm from the hood and I don't act stupid like that.
At my job I've had bullshit done to me and I've turned the other cheek.
Sometimes you just have to.

Of course, that's why I used quotation marks.

This is actually the third time this has happen to Artest. Players getting hit by fans happens alot. This problem needed to end, and nobody step up to prevent this. So the NBA does deserve the scar from this incident.

I remember in High School getting rocks thrown at us, twice, because we beat the opposing team.

Sorry, I don't mean to hijack this thread but Ralph Wiggum are you the same guy pictured below?

I am waiting for one of the legal parasites like Gloria Alred to show up representing the "victim" ball players who's rights were violated by having their incomes removed without due process or some dumb ass crap like that.

Im not a lawyer, but if Ron Artest can prove that the NBA did not provide proper security. Remember this has happen to him 2 other times. The he can possibly win some of money. I even think Sprewell got his money. The Player Association might have a case. If this was a collective-bargaining agreement year he would not have been suspended for the year. All David Stern cares about is the Dollar. Cause that would have jepordize an extention of a player-owner agreement. Just look at Hockey, even though that is a totally different scenerio.

Still Artest should be suspended for the year along with Jackson. O'neal should get 60 games.

Even David Stern admitted that if it was another player he would have not suspend him for the year.

I agree with the suspension that Artest got, but think that O'Neal and Jackson got off a little too lightly. 40 would have been better IMO.

I think Stern should have gone one step further, too. With those three out of the lineup for an extended period of time, it's possible that Indiana could be a lottery team. It would be a shame if they got a high draft pick as a result of these suspensions. Stern should take away their 1st round pick next year, whatever it may wind up being.

Damn, good point there.

I hope they don't get the pick.

Actually, the piston fans did more for the Pistons then we think. Now all the Pistons have to worry about is Miami in the East. So they will not see a real opponent until the Eastern Conference Finals.

Dale, He's not going to jail for this but this isn't the last time he'll be tested. Somebody will push his button and he'll react. Next time he'll be just another thug and unless he's real lucky he'll have to pay like you or I would. I agree that all parties should face punishment but this is going to be swept under the rug because money's involved. I still don't know his past and don't give a rats ass. I haven't liked basketball since they started carrying the ball.

You think he will be thrown in jail? Personally, both he and the fan should see some sort of punishment from the law.

The worst thing to come out of this is that in the end the fans are the ones that are gonna lose because they will prolly build something to separate the fans and it will most likely mess up with the view.

BTW, I had no idea about Artest's past, I hate basketball.

 :thumb:

well i think it is mostly the palace fans' fault. one mofo threw some beer at 'the thug' artest and one poor innocent guy got frisked mistakenly.then all of a sudden stephen jackson join in and threw punches even though it was none of his business. i guess he just wants to make it his and make him feel cool, just like a little kid. JO ran and threw a punch at a fan who is being restrained? omfg. they all lose their control but as they say, when you're in a game you feel heated and intense and it's like just under your skin but you're able to control it. mad props to artest,jo and the god damn idiotic stephen jackson, i thought he should get the longest suspension

I could not believe my fucking ears, the ESPN announcers were actually calling this shit "self defense." You got a plastic cup of beer thrown at you... you wanted to get even, that's not fucking self defense. You're supposed to be a professional, don't act like a good of the schoolyard.

They weren't talking about the cup of beer. Artest had some guy throw a couple of cheap shots to the back of the head. When he came back on the court some dumbass came up to him with his fists up. What would you do?
I'm not defending what he did. you gotta say that was a nice punch that jermaine o'neal threw. I think that guy's fat ass made the stadium shake.

Sometimes you just have to.

Why does everybody keep trying to compare a their job to an NBA player?
Not the same. Pay or situations.

Their playoff hopes are not dead. Who is in the east? Jermaine O'neal will be back in 25 games so they only have to win 10-15 games to stay in the run. They won't get very far in the playoffs but they will make it.

Well, it's kind of difficult to retailiate when
you have enormous pounds of water
pressure coming from a fire hose
coupled with armed police
with attack dogs waiting for you to
try and escape the fire hose......

There's no excuse for Artest's actions but there is no
excuse for the actions of the fan who
initially threw the cup of beer onto Artest

Jackson should have gotten just as much as Artest or more.

Funny thing about Artest. When Wallace gave him a forearm to the throat, he backed away and didn't do anything. 2 minutes later, a fan throws a couple ice cubes at him and he's all the sudden he's throwing hooks like he's lennox lewis. What a little b*tch...

Without the fans these guys wouldn't be where they are,or gettin paid what they get.BAd fans or good fans,They are a big part of the game,if nobody showed up or cared, where would they be,maybe back to playin at the Rec Center.Just the same as in any job, when you have rude customers, even when it is untolerable, you need to act professional.I worked security before,I have had people fight with me,hit me,I had people threaten and curse at me,I would've been fired for punching someone out. They wanna act the fool.......Give um the Get.

First of all, I think they all got justified punishment.

Only thing is, i hate how everyone judges these guys. Sports analysts say what a tragedy adn shit this is, yet they LIVE for this stuff, cuz it gives them something interesting to talk/write about instead of their boring ass old routines.

I also don't like how everyone is such a harsh judge. Everyone is such a saint when someone else has a problem or makes a mistake...

Hell yeah. Probably the biggest money maker of all sports. Plus you don't have the thugs and druggies you have elsewhere. All others should look to Nascar for guidance. Not saying it's perfect, but far superior to others IMO.
