I recently got back into lifting weights in the middle of Feb. after taking probly over a year off. I've been taking things slow because I'm pretty injury prone. Yet despite focusing on good form with manageable weights, I woke up an old injury. My Lat muscle on the right side, the top of the lat muscle and I think the Teres Major and Minor's ( I googled images lol). In that area it's always inflamed and causing discomfort, no real pain just a lot of fatigue and inflammation. For over a month I've been taking 600-800mg of Ibuprofen every 3-4 hours, I use a heating pad very regularly while laying in bed, and thru the day I do light stretching to try and benefit that way.

But nothing is helping to make it go away. Was thinking of seeing my doc. soon maybe get a prescription anti inflammatory. I can't afford the co-payments to go to therapy regularly. Any suggestions?

If such heavy loads of an anti-inflammatory med are not helping than what makes you so sure you're suffering from inflammation? I only say this because I have arthritis that can act up severely from time to time and even when my inflammation is very high a 400mg single dose of advil will help significantly. If your doses are doing squat I'd be quick to assume it might be something else so I'd see a doctor for sure. In the meantime, don't lift until you know what's going on, you don't want to be sorry later.

I've posted here on injuries before and always recommend the first step to be some deep tissue work by a good LMT or some PT. It doesn't take long to determine if that's going to help you or not. I've trained with an injury for over a year and found no relief until I decided to have deep tissue work done. Within 2 weeks, I was healing and by 4 weeks, I was injury free. Many times a doc is going to prescribe something for pain/inflammation without dealing with the underlying issue.

That's a great idea pjreiff, and I love a good massage. Were you going more than once a week?

it could be either muscle , or tendon, or nerve.etc,,,,..if it has been a long time and it is hurting you, you probably have to see a good doc to pin point the problem, then you can act upon it or maybe some in this forum can help you heal it.

The regimen I followed was: One session of deep tissue work followed up a week later with a Chiropractic adjustment. Lightened up on weight to not aggravate the injury and over about a two week period and it worked for me. Good luck.

You have some type of chronic issue that needs to be understood and treated with some intervention whether it's deep tissue, chiropractic, or ??? Taking something to relieve the pain and inflammation will not fix the underlying issue.
