today i did weighted situps and it hurt my lower back when i started..so i just skipped them...i dont know whats wrong with it...im like almost 100% im doing squatting and deadlifitng right..and those are the only excerises that use it...what kind of stretches are there for the lower back? i think that might help a lot

Got the same problem, sucks doesn't it!! Here is what I do and it really works. You have more than likely strained your lower back muscles, no shit your thinking. If your really in some pain I'd recommend alot of ice to reduce the inflamation. Once it feels a little better use a heating pad on your lower back, it brings blood to the injured muscle to aid in healing but it also inflames the muscle so, after 15 minutes or so with the heat, then do some stretching. My favorite it to lay on my back and pull my kness to my chest SLOWLY HOLD FOR 30 SECONDS. Another is to sit with your legs flat on the floor and sitting up lean forward and try to touch your toes, After strecthing it VERY IMPORTANT TO ICE YOUR BACK!!!. This will help reduce the inflamation the heat and strecthing will cause.

As for a pad I would say no. To me using a pad lets you rest the bar on the back of your neck which puts more preasure on your lower back when you lean over to sqaut. You need to get under the bar farther and let it rest more on your shoulders, below your traps. Good Luck

thanks! do i ice it and heat it in the same day or keep icing it till it feels better and then heat it and stretch it?...also i dont have a heating pad..should i buy one or will a hot shower or bath do good enough?

Another thing to remember is that when you are working out your abs a lot (especially with weights) you need to also strengthen your lower back. Just like over developing your chest can give you shoulder problems, overdeveloping your abs can strain your lower back.

balance is the key...

Yes, you use a heating pad on it for approx 20 minutes, follow that up with some stretching, then ice(IN THAT ORDER!!!) The idea of heat before stretching is to warm the muscle up, you really don't want to stretch while your muscles are not warm. The idea of ice right after all this is to keep the muscle from getting inflamed, Ice will be your buddy for the next few days!!

Also, when you train again skip anything that involves your lower back for a while. Give it a chance to heal. Train around it.

Oh and yes, buy a heating pad, there cheap.

The pad is fine.

Heating pads are everywhere.

Deadlift.

Don't squat until you can deadlift some weight.

Then, squat.

I used to have the same problem- still do to a degree. I was afraid to do deads because of the lower back trouble, until someone advised that I do them BECAUSE of the trouble I was having. Light weights, of course, nothing heavy. It's been a few months, and I've noticed a decrease in instances of back pain. Just be sure to keep your form super-strict, STRETCH and don't over-do it.

I'm getting around squats with some advice I got from here: pre-exhaust with leg extensions and ham curls, then do light-weight squats, as tolerated.

You'll move up in weight. A bad back is why I started lifting in the first place (Doctors advice) Of course he didn't mean doing 350lb deads.
