What do you guys think about eating 1 hour before your workout? Is this good or bad? Why or why not?

Depends how much you eat and what you eat. One can eat vegetables or fruit pretty close to a workout. But watch out with meat(in my opinion), allow at least 3 or maybe more hrs before workout. Fish digests more quickly.

Don't 'binge' on veg, meat, fish, poultry, bread in fact most things up to three hours before a workout. (My opinion---and may be torn to threads by others)

Hmmm, ok. I usually eat a tuna sandwhich, and a yogurt about an hour before a workout.

Solid food 90 min prior wo is ok. If you are pressed for time, you can have a shake 45mins prior hitting the weights.

the latest thign i eat is a turkey sandwich with veges and a little bit of walnuts at 1:05 - 1:15 and i work out at usually....4:00
I take my no xplode 30 min before workout.
is this bad?

I like to eat 2 hrs before

you wanna have some food in your system, you dont wanna be running on an empty tank...i usually drink a cup of skim milk at least about 30 minutes prior to the first lift.

Yeah thats my philosophy as well....not the cup of milk, but the fuel in the tank.

I eat essentially the same thing I eat post workout: carbs and protein. The only difference being that I include more complex/lower GI carbs in my pre workout meal to last me through the workout.

I have eaten 2 cups(dried) of oatmeal, a whey protein shake, and a large cup of coffee an hour before my morning workout for the last six months and been fine. Except once or twice, I nearly upchucked on leg day, but now I am use to it.

I haven't really had any problems with eating before a workout. I've eaten lots of good meat immediately before a workout in the past and I've never really shown signs of expelling the food through the gaping orifice on my face. As to science... see above.

I usually have a tuna sandwich on whole grain bread with some piece of fruit or a bowl of spaghetti with ground beef in it.

p.s should be moved to the diet section

Wow, I am a little surprised at everyone's responses. Personally, I cannot workout without eating shortly before. I usually eat a normal meal minus the fat source preworkout. I will try to give myself 20 minutes to digest, then I hit the gym. If I know I'll be a while before working out (more than an hour), I'll eat a normal meal with the fat source.

me too kent...30-45min prior to workout...always

I always have something light in my gut and sip on a protein/carb shake while lifting.

I have to eat before I train, usually an hour before and nearly always egg whites and oatmeal.
