I was just reading about BB hack squats and was wondering if anyone here does them and if they are as effective as a hack sled. My gym has a POS all-in-one hack sled, leg press and I refuse to use it.

Barbell hack squats were used quite frequently in the "old days," but are rarely seen being done now. I have used them before for varietys' sake, but they are awkward and tough to do with alot of weight. If you were to try them, I would do so as part of a superset of leg extensions to failure, followed by the hacks.

Yeah, although the hack machines aren't too shabby, albeit a little restrictive.

The hack squat machine has probably done more for my quad development than anything else!

If i take a certain stance on the hack i'm good, but any other stance and it hurts my knees.

Gopro, how tall are you again?

I find the same thing TCD, I'm not a big fan of the hack and I've never done BB hack before.

I've got the same problem, I prefer heavy leg presses for quad developement.

I agree GP. I used to belong to a gym that had "nice" equipment and the hack sled was my favorite. This Body Solid POS we have now isn't worth the floor space it takes up.

I'm 5' 11" TCD

Yeah, do you have studies?

Post a pic with you standing next to a couple of yard sticks, and next to a object such as a car so we know the pic is not morphed, and hold a current issue of USA Today in your right hand. (not sure why we need the newspaper, but it sounded better).

:D

I'd like to see a reference.

I am sitting here literally cracking up...wow, I feel it in my abs! Hmmmmm, in my upper or lower abs?

My experience proves to me that I am 5' 11" tall. I have never actually measured, or had an official study done on my height, but experience is what counts here!

BB hacks are really odd feeling, but I don't have the knee pain that I get from the hack machine. Can't use the same weight yet,but I'll get there.:thumb: :thumb:

I did a cycle of barbell hack squats about a year and a half ago. It was after i decided i was going to train at home but before i got a power rack. Got up to about 220 before i had to drop them all together. They were hell on my knees and the bar hits the back of my legs. I think all things considered anybody would be better off doing deadlifts or sumodeadlifts. Trapbar deads I feel are even better because of the emphasis on the quad.

At first they were awkward but I got used to them. Now they are the main builder for my legs because I dont have a rack in my basement. Its basically a deadlift that focuses more on the quads...I like em.

Make due with what you have! Good work!
