So, I am a european living in the states now (and to make things worse, i live in UTAH, mormon country)....I spend half my life in germany and ofcourse I love freaking beer...I have struggled with the whole beer and bodybuilding issue for a long time but i am overcomming and told myself that I will have no beer until new years, and i know i can do it because i have been a dedicated bodybuilder for years now......I am however not going to stop drinking because i just dont see the point, im not a pro and im not geting paid to train so i feel like it would be a waste not to have fun on the weekends with my friends....I switched from beer to english Gin and Tonic, i figured out that the other night I consumed about 240 cals of tonic water (about 80 carbs) and about 8 shots of gin instead of the usual 6-12 beers which is huge...but my question is this...how proud should I actually be about this switch? am i doing just as much damadge with the alcohol or is this a large difference to the average weekend bodybuilder?

I'm in kind of a similar predicament so what I do is this: I drink only Michelob Ultra (low-carb) or drink hard liquor with diet soda - at least I'm not getting all that sugar, right?

Next I appreciate your line "You've never lived untill you've almost died, life has an excitement that the protected will never know." - I was in the ICU for a month after a car-accident with a Traumatic Brain Injury, and now I love life !!! =D

I think you've already answered your questions by showing your priorities. I can't take this question serious. Hell drink what you want. What are your goals? If you're getting gassed on the weekends your weekdays need to be that much more strict. If you're getting gassed every weekend I can't take your fitness goals serious. That's my opinion

1 beer= 4oz wine= 1shot of liquior. same alcohol content. if u drink ur defeating your purpose to get your maximum out of your weight training. i drink 2 beers a yr fosters or labbatts blue 2 bottles a yr if that only in summer this yr nothing yet. if your on gear your doing damage by drinking that much booze. do yourself a favor try not drinking at all. or cut down a little 8 drinks i couldnt talk more or less walk. i would be dead from poisioning. my friend is a judge in the county i live in he always tells me if these people knew how to train they wont drink. hes a npc champuion bber uses gear. but hes a FRIEND not a fly by night friend. only 5 true friends i have. iam planning on turning pro if i win a few more shows but at 44 curt told me i still have a chance. people told me it was over because my age until i talked to curt. i dont care if iam number 5,000 in the country thats pro i got a goal now. please for your health cut down.set a goal in weight training and do that instead of drinking every weekend, the party has to end eventually after a drinking night. but enough preaching do as u wish.

I think it depends on how much your drinking.

Which leads to, how often.

Diet sugars have a lot of synthetic ingredients in them.

But if you're not competing and not a pro, it's ok to have a couple of few drinks when you want to let your hair down.

Beer, I've given up. Too bloating.
