hi just started weightlifting and am having trouble benchpressing for example when i use light weights i dnt seem to feel any pressure on my chest muscles but when i use heavier weights my arms struggle more which effects using the correct form. should i concentrate more on my arms and shoulders before i start working on my chest?

Of course not. You should continue working all movements. Bench is a compound movement and as with all compound movements you're only as strong as your weakest muscle in that movement. Eventually your arms will catch up.

also, when doing the movement, try to mentally force yourself to use your chest to lift the weight instead of arms/shoulders

Keep with the lighter weights, learn proper form and concentrate on that for a while, then steadily increase the weight when you feel comfortable.

Keeping good tight form is the most important thing here, you have plenty of time to lift big weights but only one chance to learn. Better to get it right now, than come back in a year or two after an injury and have to learn it all over again.

You're doing fine.

go for a wider grip on the bench or dumbells
