I got an idea from reading str8flexeds article on bb.com regarding the ALA project and then someone at elite forums posted about how measuring your blood glucose levels, ok so now...what if i was to buy something like this http://www.lifescan.com/products/meters/ultra/ and monitor my blood glucose levels every 3 or so hours to ensure proper balance and not spiking insulin too much, what do you guys think, is this a benefical idea or not? and has anyone done sucha thing to benefit their training and hone their nutritional needs?

Unless youre diabetic, i dont know why you'd need that? Why can't you just estimate your glucose/insulin levels by tracking what you eat?

I am trying this successfully but without the monitoring system. Naturally, I am rather sensitive to carbohydrates (endomorph) and can easily tell when I am hypoglycemic. I get very lethargic and feel drained, lack of motivation, ready for nap (literally) etc. The monitoring system would be good for someone that can't so easily tell. A lot of them are too costly though for the benefits.

My main reason for pursuing this is to essentially remain clear headed and energic as often as I can. For me that should prove a greater benefit than anything. Easier to achieve goals with positive mindset/not much lethargy. With all the variables that go into a nutritional/training program, it would be hard for most to figure out if a couple of moderately hypoglycemic episodes per day would really make a huge difference. I doubt I could.

What has worked best for me lately is keeping protein absurdly high to the point that some of it is converted to glucose. Inefficient as that may be, my blood glucose levels have been far more stable (and I get to eat a lot of meat). It is a method of effectively consuming tons of carbs w/o the spike. Of course more frequent meals, fewer carbs per meal, more fat/protein with it tends to stabilize levels as well...

So short version yes I like the idea and it can help in many ways.

I was thinking becuase I want to optimize my level of perofmance, and I'm cutting now and class started again so when I'm in class, my brain needs glucose to function proper, for the past few days I just been brain dead in class, i'm on a 150G low-Gi carb per day, 300G, 60G fat diet, it wouldn't be bad, but I would need some info on what levels are good for a BB and weight and LBM to factor in aswell.
