Just got out of the hospital for pneumonia and am prescribed blood thinner cumiden. Still not strong enough to train yet but when I do how does blood thinner affect training?

I know this is about a month old, but...why did they prescribe blood thinners with pneumonia? I have had it about 5 times in my life and all I got was some really string antibiotics and antivirals.

Coumadin isn't prescribed for pneumonia. Usually it's given for afib or a heart valve issue to prevent blood clots in the heart ventricles which could lead to ischemic stroke. Sucks because you have to have inrs or clotting times checked on a regular basis. Plus no turnip greens. I would check with your physician and find the real reason he prescribed you Coumadin and make sure you don't have some condition which would make it dangerous to train.

The blood thinner was for a-fib. The a-fib caused the pneumonia.

Atrial fibrillation caused by a condition that is treatable, such as pneumonia or hyperthyroidism, often goes away when that condition is treated.
In some cases, doctors cannot find the cause of atrial fibrillation. These cases are called lone atrial fibrillation. Lone atrial fibrillation occurs more often in people younger than 65. It often stops on its own. But it may need to be treated

http://www.fpnotebook.com/cv/ekg/atrlfbrltncs.htm. atrial fib tends to occur in respiratory conditions that involve congestion of the pulmonary circulation as in chf, pulmonary embolisms, or the copds. pneumonia qualifies because the lungs have gotten congested with exudates as a result of the infection so the circulation to the lungs is struggling for every blood cell to get through the pulmonary network. the heart and lungs are bound together; what happens to one affects the other. atrial fib is usually the first arrhythmia to occur of the arrhythmias.
