I am 16 - Male and was wondering what a reasonable body fat percentage would be keeping in mind i am not competing so nothing drastic like <5 or anything. Cheers
9-12%....kind of depends were you've been? Most non w8lifting males your age would be higher...at 7-9% you'd have some abs/more cuts but possibly be restricting food which is important for growth right now
The reason I say 9-12% is that is keeps you in a range that is sustainable, and allows you to get very lean in 8-12 weeks, sometime down the line
For anyone out there that's in NYC. I am looking for a reliable place to get my BF% tested. There are nothing but yahoos at my gym and have received inconsistent results. And that crappy scale I have is all over the place. Any thoughts?
can't help you but i've had a heck of a time with this in LA.
seems like it should be easy - but it isn't. i train at gold's venice. no one working there does it. they send you right next door to the nutrition place. when you get there they hard sell you on their nutrition counseling and tell you why you can never achieve your goals without their expensive help.
then when they finally stopped trying to sell me and tested my bodyfat i could feel that he grabbed muscle etc. when he did my tricep measurement so it was probably wrong.
i'm still trying to find someone! other gyms i've tried use an electronic caliper and only measure 1 spot. when i find someone who'll measure 7 spots and give me the #s - I'll be a happy camper. for now i'm super frustrated!
No trainers test b/f , that is the lamest thing i have ever heard of!! That is the number one most important thing to a trainer!! It is the best way to get clients, and to explian the importance of weight training. I AM HAVING A HARD TIME BELIEVING THIS!!
Grabbing fascia is very commom, hell grabbing instead of pinching is very common....
A trainer usually is only a good as the person who trained them, plus their acquired knowledge....it's been my observation that is takes hundreds if not thousands of BF tests to perfect one's technique.
That said, some learn quicker than others...and you may also want to go to a Physiology Lab at a local University, ask for the instructor to perform the test (Some Uni's do this for $$$), not the students
sawheet - they have an arrangement with the business next door. it's different there than other gyms i've been too. i don't think they even have on staff trainers at the gym. in fact - i've asked several of the pros who workout there (some train clients) and they've also told me to go to the nutrition place next door. sux.
thanks courtqueen! but i really need to find a good person i can go to every 3-4 weeks to monitor my cut. (i don't just want a good read - i want to track progress)
i'll think i'll give the universities a shot DP. i've put it off b/c weekend tests are much easier for me with my work schedule but i've yet to find a good solution so it's time to try something else.
OK. Thanks for that DP. I havnt had my BF taken but i would guess it would be around 15%. I am 6 foot 1 and 165 pounds. I have come from about 22% BF and all i want too do is get rig of the last dregs. Get down too somewhere in that 9 - 12% range. I have heard cutting is bad for young males. How could i get that bf down a couple more percent?
