Hey i was just wondering if boxing/hittin the bag or jump roping was cardio...

and is it effective for training and what does it help??

This would be more anarobic exercise,I would say it compares to HIIT training.I did Tae Kwon Do for 6 month's while trying to do weight lifting and for me there was a big overtraining and burnout factor while trying to do both

Yeah boxing and jumping rope are great exercises to do. Do them HIIT style to get the most out of them.

Have you thought about "shadowboxing" and jumping rope? When I used to Kick-box. I did 10, 2 minute rounds. I would start off with either shadow boxing or jumping rope for the first round, and then move to the other one and continue alternating till the 10 rounds where up.(5 rounds each)Talk about a cardio workout!!! :thumb:

I usually work boxing in on my cardio days. Punching bags/speedbags. I either warm up with 30 min of cardio before and 10 min after or I'll interval them. I'll hit the bags for 3 minutes than jump on the stairclimber for 3... that kicks ma ass!

Boxing is good but some form of MMA like you see on Ultimate Fighting is best IMHO. Combining MMA and strength training gives you a limblicity and power you would not otherwise achieve normally.

While in a bulking phase every calorie you consume should go to building muscle mass. Focus on lifting with minimal cardio. After you've reached your goals and are in a cutting cycle hit MMA training hard and often.

The heavy bag is awesome for several reasons. Anyone who has ever used one knows it is good cardio when done properly ... especially when foot techniques are included in the training program.

As you add more muscle and power that bag teaches you how to wield it with effect. You achieve an increased agility as well when cross training.

The speed bag improves your eye to hand coordination and increases endurance in you upper body. You achieve an increased agility as well as hand speed in all areas of life not just boxing.

Having a solid mental connection from head to foot can only come from working out and both the heavy bag and speed bag aid you with that.

It can be a rough world out there ... add in MMA training after you have hit that steel enough and your confidence will be there when you need it. You body will absolutely be ready.

Just MHO.

it is cardio and its good. At the academy our training officers get dressed up and make us fight them hard for 10 minutes, its like fighting a bear with all the shit they wear. Now everyone who fights knows how you get tired and your heart beat hits thru the roof, they say that for every minute you fight (now I mean fight as in givivng 110%) it is the equvelant of running apx. 1 mile. And it feels like it, sometimes I do that with my friend to get a pump and and some cardio....Anyways, I have a huge boxing bad in my garage that I hit on hardocre during summer, I like it and it works wonders....

ps: by fighting I mean mostly wrestling and trying to get the otehr to the ground and control them and such... not fist fighting, that would be kinda stupid..
