It's been over 5months since I quit smoking ciggs (about a pack a day for 3 years) I'm still coughing up brown tar phlegm not nearly as much as first couple months but wanted to know if that is normal? And if it is definitely from the tar? TY
remember , the cilia that line the respiratory tract were paralyzed by the smoking, they are now just waking up and finally beating again, pushing out all the crap that congealed and settled in your lungs all those years, but it still would not hurt to see your doc.
I quit 28 days ago after smoking for 36 years. Still cough up a little, most was the first two weeks, but yes it will be brown.. maybe a few black specs.
congratulations. Your lungs have healed to the point and cleared enough that your cilia are moving again...and now you will cough up all the shit you have put into them. It's a bit uncomfortable but it's better out than in. (when speaking of tar in the lungs of course).
