The other day I followed the recipe on the back of the bottle of Franks Hot Sauce to make buffalo sauce for my chicken breast(franks + butter lol). It was amazing but called for a large amount of butter. Has anyone tried an alternative to using butter to make this kind of sauce?

Butter will not kill you, make sure it fits into your calories for the day. It's a good fat

You could skip the butter...I doubt you'd really miss it in the flavour.

I thought it was mostly sat fat and high in cholesterol?

I guess I have never really tried franks without the butter. I'll give it a try next time

What are you goals? I wouldn't even bother making something like that if I was cutting.

I understand that the butter might not be the best thing while cutting which is why I was wondering if there were any alternatives. As far as the franks sauce, it barely has any calories so the only downside would be the sodium which from what I have read does not slow you down on a cut besides the extra water weight. Also, I do not consume enough sodium to worry about high blood pressure.

Butter is ok in moderation but they recipes usually call for a ton of butter per unit, so it may not be the best balanced food to eat.

and as long as you keep your sodium in check you are fine with the Frank's.

'Saturated fat is found in foods that are firm at room temperature, such as meat, cheese, butter and luncheon meats as well as other high-fat dairy products and palm, palm kernel and coconut oils. This type of fat is deadly for your heart because it causes artery-clogging LDL cholesterol levels to rise.'

where did you find that?

Yeah this sauce calls for about half a cup of butter which is a lot. I guess I will have to try Franks by itself

Deadly, hey?

Wow, I must be dead already!

Natural saturated fat is a healthy part of your diet. If it fits your macros, go for it.

Sodium is fine too unless you have high blood pressure and are being treated for it.

And from your post I take it that butter contains natural saturated fats. Another question, does anybody use those fake butter sprays or any other form of alternative butter? I have seen people put them on their healthy popcorns, baked potatoes ect.

Did you want a very long and detailed answer? If so do a search for "secrets of the edible oil industry'. Hang on.

There ya go

If you just want the shorter version: Marketing, profiting and ignorance.

That link reminds me of something, I'll start a new thread...

That was a joke right? I know you are just tryign to help him, but that is sooooo not fact. Franks vs Franks with a load of butter is a HUGE difference in flavor. Thats like saying taking the sugar out of a snicker bar wouldn't make a difference you would mind.

Don't. Use real butter, or don't use anything at all. A lot of those "substitutes" are loaded with hydrogenated vegetable oils and a bunch of other shit. If you think saturated fats are bad for you, go look those up.

Mercola, eh?

Andrew, is that you?

im a die hard franks red hot fan! You can use margarine or some other crap but again you might as well be using butter...and without the butter, all your using is the sauce itself...the only reason you add butter to the red hot is to take some of the "hotness" out of it...so the question is, can you live without the butter?

Andrew, is that you?

No it's me. I know some of Mercola's stuff is crap ("Let me tell you why no other multivitamin on the entire planet is any good, apart from the one I'm selling..") but he pops up so much in searches. The article in question is by Mary Enig, whom various people love to hate but you can't really deny her research.

I would say butter is vastly better than marge but it certainly is packed with calories, so I'm not suggesting you slather it everywhere.

Enig writes some very good information on fat. Just bypass Mercola and go straight to the source on that one.

i do this exactly!

or you can take low fat bleu chees dressing... pour the whole bottle in a bowl, pour in half a bottle of franks, and a package of wing seasoning and soak the chicken or wings in it and BAKE them and it's AWESOME!
