The ominous threat of getting a spanking from my dads thick rawhide belt made me the well mannered man I am today...
nothing like sitting in your room crying for hours before your old man gets home just watching for his car to come up the drive way.
the things I got spanked for I either didn't do that thing again or made sure I didn't get caught. end result I learned a lesson and didn't force my father to discipline me for that again.
my fathers father died when he was 3-4 and his mother would commence the beatings when she got home at night when the kids were sleeping. that would be a hell of a way to get woken up.

Treat people as second class with no rights to speak up, defend themselves and have original thought from pre-K to grade 12, what the fuck should we expect? A good ass whooping from time to time isn't a bad thing, nor is losing an argument if you are wrong even if it embarrasses you. This will never happen in most schools now. Kids can't even bring what they want for lunch anymore unless it meets some BS healthy food requirement that is so terrible its laughable. You want to find the cause, look at what we do to kids from the time they can actually think for themselves; no wonder adults are immature.

Well, when I was a kid we got paddled. A few swats on the back pockets, no Ritalin necessary. Today's youth are done a great disservice by catering to their every misbehavior, excusing their actions, and handing out participation ribbons. Five positive comments for every negative comment.
I don't see how children are supposed to learn respect or a sense of simply being reasonable.
