I learn this from a magazine ,share with friends

Body Weight [lb] x 15 + (moderate activity [mins/day] x 3.5)
BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate)

BMR [kcal]

Body Weight [lb] x 15 + (moderate activity [mins/day] x 3.5)

Since you wish to lose weight, your target = BMR - 500 kcal

For example I am 160 lb and my moderate activity is 30mins/day
My target will be 160*15+30*3.5-500=2005 kcal
Then you can control everyday's calories

I don't see how this is possibly correct. Based on this calculation at my weight of 275, my maint calories would be

275*15+30*3.5=4230 kcal

There is no way I am eating 4200 cal per day and not gaining weight

well......the reason for our responses is due to the "DUH" factor..............but altho i didnt test this guys formula because i got a website for that...it could be right.....its ESTIMATING your maintnance calories, which if you were 275 and a fat ass than 4200 cals per day is what it would take for you to MAINTAIN your current fat assenes.....

Why does it matter if hes a fat ass or muscular?

It doesn't, it goes by total body weight. (muscular, or fat) Although, the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn...But, lets not get into that and keep this simple...

BMR is calculated by weight, height, age, etc...These are just guidelines, but everyone is different.

If you weigh 275lbs, you obviously eat a lot...4000 calories sounds like a lot, but it really isn't...To get up to that weight, you must have been eating big, hence a higher calorie maintenance to keep you big.

That's why people say: "If you wanna get big, eat big." It doesn't just happen by eating your fruits and veggies...Some of these people who weigh 300lbs eat 6000-7000 calories a day and don't even realize it...

Here is a simple calculator.

Wasnt what I was getting at, but thanks.

I was messing with QuestionGuy a bit for giving the newb a hard time.

As an aside my maint. cals are around 3600, and I eat 4200cals to bulk. Some days its great, others it a challenge.

It's simple, just have a meal at McDonald's and you'll be half way there! lol (tons of protein)

C6zo6,
Thanks for the link. According to that calculator, my BMR is ~2400 cal.
That makes more sense as I have been sticking to 2500 cal/day using fitday with at least 200g protein and 100g fat and lifting heavy and my weight hasn't moved. I will bring it down to 2000 cal and see what happens
