I pulled my achilles on my left foot doing calf presses 45 degrees, which are pretty controlled. The weight was heavy but I warmed up as usual.

Anyone pulled the achilles before? I'm on anti-inflams and some other meds and will stay off my feet for 3-5 days.

Always had great calfs due to genetics. Now I'm afraid of even working them with weights again....

you better give it hella rest man

if you actually tear it, youll be forever fucked...

I hear you MyCAt.

Bad achilles, and you can't even walk.

Didn't Dan Marino actually tear his?

damn

same thing happened to me a couple years ago on my right calf- Please stretch it a lot

I didn't stretch enough to keep full range of motion and now i have way less flexibility in it.

and it makes a spongy sound all the time

Something doesn't look right when I see people doing that on leg press machines. I would just stick to standing calf raises, I've never had a problem with them

Thanks to all for your help: I'm going with Mudge and will never go near the Leg Press machine again. I'll do standing calf raises from now on.

I believe this happened (believe can't prove) because I was going to far down on the negative. Since I am sure I don't stretch enough, I simply pulled the Achilles, causing it to flame. It was major painful...but didn't hit until about 6-7 hours after my workout, and after I sat still in a chair for 1 hour.

The anti-inflams are working, and I'll make sure I'll take it easy.

I've done worse before....but the achilles scares me....it can bring you down.....

yeah man...injuries suck and can take a huge toll on your training....just keep the bigger goal in mind....were with u bro....i think we've all had our share of niks and cuts....

I never had problems doing calves on the leg press machines. I used to do 5-6 big plates. Mostly to stretch the calves but I used to do 8-10 reps. In my prime I used to press 8 big plates. Those were the days man. I hope I can re-live those days soon.

Not everyone is going to have bad luck, but it places a huge load on the calves while at the same time placing them under a highly stressed stretch position.

I think a donkey calf raise would be a fine substitute. I also dont like stretching my hamstrings so much while having hundreds of pounds on my calves, I just dont like the movement but thats JMO.

Mudge. I am one that has experienced a butt load of bad luck recently. I guess I should take you advice for on the future. Right now I'm training at home so I all I have to do my calves is an elevated platform I made out of 2x4's. I should be safe for the time being.lol

Don't the hams get stretched when doing standup calves also. When the calve are in negative range I would think the hams are being stretched some what. Donkey raises not included.
