I am 150lbs and 5'6. I was told to consume a least 3000 calories if I want to gain a lot of lean mass. But I am having trouble finding the right foods to meet this goal.

I would like to hear what some of you, who are trying to bulk up, are eating to meet your calorie and protein needs. Thanks

Right now i usually have..

For breakfast
20g of whey
2 or 3 packets of oatmeal (about 240 or 360calories)
or
fruit loops(about 180calories with milk)

morning snack is usally another bowl of fruit loops (180 cal)

Lunch
Roasted Chicken Breast sub from subway(311 calories)
or
Philly Beef & Swiss sub from arbys(760 calories)

Snack
sunflower seeds (180 calories)
or
fruit loops (180)

Dinner
Roasted Chicken Breast sub from subway(311 calories)
or
Philly Beef & Swiss sub from arbys(760 calories)

I pretty much only drink water the whole day, with the occasional glass of milk.

Hi Elmo!

We're assuming you're eating all this food in conjuction with a decent workout plan? Eating lots of excess food without working out will just make you chunky!

yea I workout monday/wednesday/friday for about an hour and a half.

you definitely need to replace all of those "froot loop meals" with something nutritious!

I just noticed that!! Kind of reminds me of Mr "I eat four bowls of Cocoa Puffs a day" Skyliner!.

How about eating the bowl of Fruit Loops and milk without the Fruit Loops?

Don't feel bad-I'm the Queen of Fruit Loops, Cocoa Puffs, oh-and of course my absolute favorite "Fruity Pebbles!" (and mind you, I normally have about 12 sweet cereals and 1 healthy one.

But what I did recently was to switch over to low-fat granola along with Kashi Crunch...OK...I also got Capt'n Crunch

(I can't help myself with all those crunch berries!) but I got vanilla soy milk to make those bland cereals taste a bit sweeter. So far I've lasted almost 3 weeks now on this..you ought to try it.

can you guys give me examples of your diets and how many calories you eat so i can work around those?

Lol @ Carbaddict, I think you should change your name to SugarAddict

Switch those fruit loops for 1/2 c oats + 1/3 c oat bran. Both are great complex carbs, high fibre and the oat bran will not change the taste of the oats, but it has more calories than the oats.

Ooops, just saw you already ate oats...well you can still add the oat bran. Nuts & pasta are both relatively healthy and calorie dense. If you're trying to bulk, these will help. You could drink more milk and juice to add extra calories as well, instead of some of that water.

Lets get serious for a moment...

I want to talk about this "Milk Issue" Do any of you stop to think about where this stuff comes from before you slap your gums to the cup and chug away. NASTY! Why don't you just go out to a farm press your lips up to a cows titty and suck away. Can't stand the stuff. Also, why is it we can drink cow titty but not human titty milk. Ever stop to wonder aboput that...

I have some serious milk issues, not sure why but can't stand for my wife to even drink it.

Hey Junebug I kind of have Milk issues too. Its pretty gross as far as I am concerned. A friend of mine who is a Personal Trainer in Boulder just had a bunch of his clients switch to Soy milk and soy products in general and he has seen remarkable changes in them... !!!!!

A great book on these issues is "Eating Well for Optimum Health" by Andrew Weil, MD

I, for one, love milk. I can't drink it though. Baaaaad news for me if I chug a glass of milk.

What difference does it make that it comes from a cow? So do hamburgers, as well as that nice leather coat that's hanging up in my closet.

I love milk to!! Always thought it was good for ya to?

I too am on the quest for calories,I've been eating four meals a day, with at least two 900 calorie mass gainer shakes a day aswell. I've put on about 20lbs in around a month and a half.
biggrin.gif

BTW the calories listed for the Subway subs are based on 6inch subs without cheese

like some already said, it would be good to substitute all those fruit loops with something not only more nutritious, but lower on the glycemic index, all that sugar will only spike your insulin levels and make you fat and hungry for more sugar! i personally like old fashioned oatmeal, cooked in water for a minute or two in the microwave, then i add two eggs, stir, microwave again for 1 - 1,5 min, stir, and mix it with vanilla protein powder and some splenda sweetener (natural and no side effects unlike aspartame). you can add some fruit if you like. it's high in complex (good) carbs and protein.

Dude,
Ditch at least two of the fruit loops snacks. You don't need that "s" in your body.

Eventually, get rid of them entirely. Unless, however if they're your favorite food. Then it's totally understandable. I mean you gotta live life right!

I hate me.
