I've always measured my oats by 'cups' and tracked them in Fitday as such. 2/3 cup of oats is ~210 cals.

Recently I've been on a gram measuring rampage and for the first time in YEARS I weighed the oats on my food scale. After scooping in a somewhat generous 2/3, the weight read 80 G. I then went to Fitday, recorded 80 grams of carbs, and found it to be 307 cals!!

This blew my mind. For the last several years have I been eating 100 more cals than I thought, not to mention the increase in carbs.

On my actual oat packaging it states 100 G - 350 cals, so 80 grams would be about 280 which is a LITTLE closer, but still, how can it be so off?

Lastly, Quaker Old Fashioned oats claims 1/2 C = 150 cals, this would mean 2/3 C = about 200.

What is it?

That is why you should get a kitchen Scale......it's being discussed here

Carbs have 4 cals per gram--- 80g oats x 4 = 320 cals

From Fitday,

Oats 80g - 311.2 cals
Cereals, QUAKER, Quick Oats, Dry 80g - 296.8 cals
Oats, raw 80g - 307.2 cals

Personally I trust fitday....

Yup. You probably didn't notice the difference between normal Oats and Quick Oats either. They both say 27g carbs in a 1/2c serving I believe, but far more quick oats will fit in 1/2c because of less volume being taken up by air.
