Yeah - because most 'fitness instructors' know what they are talking about! (no - I am not jaded by experience am I??!!).

Sorry - although there are some GREAT instructors out there - some of them are REALLY mis-informed about nutrition. There is no way your body can get what it needs (vitamins, minerals, fiber etc) from a diet that low in food... And, unless you are GROSSLY overweight with a lot of fat to lose then your lean mass losses would be just as significant as your fat losses - so you would become 'skinny fat'...

Sure - a calorie intake of 500-600 cals/day is something used in VLED - "very low energy diets" - which is something they put MORBIDLY obese individuals on in hospital when it reaches the "diet or die" stage of things... But it is a SHORT TERM, MEDICALLY SUPERVISED treatment that can result in a number of side effects that are not very nice...

PLUS - rebound is a huge problem - as soon as you come off the diet, due to metabolic slow down and loss of lean mass, you can gain a lot of fat very quickly!

Moderation is the key to effective and sustained weight loss...
