hi all ive attached a picture of a cool body can you get like this using free weights ?

Or do you need to use toning machines at the gym.

YEP

There's more to looking like that than weight training too.

He is not too big, just lean. That comes from diet!!

But he didn't get that way by waking up every day sitting on the couch in front of the TV and dieting!

I think dg is trying to say the his tone body came from diet, not "toning" machines in the gym. Ofcoarse ya gotta lift weights. :D

You are always better off with free weights, but as the others said getting lean like that guy comes mainly from proper diet/nutrition.

Step 1: Erase the word "toning" from your vocabulary. The concept of "toning" was invented by self proclaimed fitness "gurus" who were afraid of the concept of weightlifting. The proper term is resistance training, you're using some sort of artificial resistance to put stress on your muscles to make them stronger. I'll go out on a limb and say MOST people think free weights are the best form of resistance, others think machines are best. Regardless of which type of resistance you prefer you need to get in the gym and work your muscles.

Step 2: Eat correctly.

P.S. In all actuality those steps should be reversed, diet is more important than training, but you get the idea, they go hand-in-hand. :thumb:

Free weights forever. No "rise of the machines" here.

Damned straight. I dislike most machines because they restrict my natural range of motion and make the lift feel uncomfortable. There are a few machines that I like (Leg press, calf raise, most cable machines, etc.), but for the most part I prefer free weights.

As tall as I am he is built about like me, although plenty leaner.

I'd go off of what your genetics are more than anything, diet and training importance is a given.

For a shorter guy with a 500ng test level versus a tall guy at 500ng, the tall guy is screwed monumentally. Short guy might be 180, tall guy might need to hit 240 to look the same, that 60 pound spread is nothing to sneeze at.

thanks guys i take it for body building free weights is better thanks !

i use machines only for a warmup sets, free weights or just plain iron is the way to go man, plus you have to thnk about genetics too man, to some people it is eassier than to others .......

okay what would u do if u had bad gentics like being weak and quite small bone structure lol not bother ?

I would hope anyone would not say "dont bother," so maybe you wont look like a big underwear model, would you rather be a complete stick?

I may not be Arnold, but I still love to lift.

how come most people on this site appear to have all been skinny then put on mass... im just the opposite ive been fat my whole life and i want to lose fat and gain muscle

You aren't looking hard enough then I suppose, some people have come from being overweight, I can think of 3 off the top of my head.

I went from overweight, to overweight with some additional muscle mass, to skinny, and finally I'm sort of skinny but adding mass. There are plenty of people who were/are fat and trying to slim down and replace fat with muscle.

fuck genetic and fuck bone structure. Yeah i do addmit that i have nice genetics and my structure is good too, i was jsut plessed but fuck that man, i work hard everyday inside the gym and outside the gym when i have to diet or bulk, so if someone is saying ohhh man my genetics suck i cant do it then they are just fucking quiters

I was blessed by having a fully working human body, but not neccessarily great muscle building genetics, not at all IMO. Not horrid maybe, but not great either.
