Why do hardcore lifters avoid cardio?

My personal trainer (a kiniesiologist, whom I don't use anymore) swears by it, and made sure it was part of my routine (30 min warmup/20 min cooldown-it was a killer!!:cry:) when I worked out.

Does it inhibit anything?
 
Seriously? How does it do that? (If it's not too much to explain:eek:)

I figured it would enhance/supplement growth.
 
Cardio burns calories, when you're trying to gain muscle you need to consume more calories than you burn.
 
Ok, that does make sense to a point, but do calories not have a direct effect on your body fat, or am I just completely off track here?
