Happy holidays everyone.

I had a blood test for my cholesterol level done last week and got the results in today. The results were as follows:

Cholesterol Level: 196
Triglyceride Level: 86
HDL: 51
LDL: 128

I was told my LDL cholesterol is considered high at 128. Thing is, three weeks before getting the blood test, I had been on a highly irregular and poor diet (also have not been working out or taking any supplements with the exception of whey). The reason being was because I had final exams (plus the week leading to finals), and one week eating terribly at my parent's for the holidays (lots of cakes and other junk food). I had also eaten myself stupid at a buffet the night before the blood test (finishing around 9pm, blood test was around 11am). I had asked the nurse if these three weeks would impact my cholesterol level greatly, but she had given me a firm "no." However, when I had asked the doctor, he didn't give me any decisive answer, and pretty much just gave me a "maybe." Does anyone know anything about this?

I should note that my diet before these three weeks have been on the most part clean, but I had been slowly increasing calories for a bulk (if that makes a difference).

A huge meal the night before, and a poor diet for last few weeks prior, will certainly alter your cholesterol levels...

I don't know what the nurse was talking about??

Get back onto a healthy and reasonable diet - lots of vegetables, some fruits, whole grains, legumes, lean proteins, nuts and seeds, skim dairy....

Supplement with 6-8g fish oils a day and make sure the majority of your dietary fat is from monounsaturated sources. Decrease saturated fats and things with HFCS etc...

Keep exercise levels up (weights + some cardio)....

Then do another test in 3 months and see how you go.

Thanks, Emma! I was pretty shocked to hear I might have high cholesterol, as I regularly eat clean. Thanks for clearing this up, I feel much more comfortable now. I will get my cholesterol checked again in 3 months as you suggested.

well... just know that it will only alter results to a certain extent - your genetics are going to have a lot to do with your results too (so you should ask your parents what their levels are like)....
