I'm wondering if there is anything that I can take that would help decrease my LDL. It is a tad high. The doc wants me to see the nutritionist but I'm sure she would put the kabash on my keto diet so I'm not going!

Thanks!

If you have good liver function (see warnings) Red Rice Yeast...Nature's Plus makes a Timed Relaease and a non- TR, but stronger one...I recommend the TR...

RRY is the best we've had.....fiber can help, (apple pectin, grapefruit pectin, modified citrus pectin are esp. good), so can regular niacin (start low, never TR) , and even stupid soy......I never suggest soy :D

On the horizon....Gugglelipids/RRY mix (see Nature's Plus, helps w/TRIG) and Policosinols

Awesome! Thanks for the info DP! I do know that my liver function is okay because she ran that test too just in case she had to give me Lipitor. (thank god she didn't..I HATE taking prescription meds!)

increase your HDL intake and raise your soluble fiber intake

Becareful, the way this PH/PS ban is going, your arteries will be illegal by the end of Jannuary!

LOL TCD! I can almost believe that!

Here are my numbers for the record: Total 218(range 140-200)/LDL 144(range 70-130)/HDL 56 (range 35-65) so my HDL is good and the LDL is just a tad high.

I've have in fact added more good fats to my diet since getting these results and have also added 1/3c of oatmeal daily so I'm hoping that helps!

fingers crossed! My family is loaded with heart disease!

Those numbers aren't bad really, esp with your HDL up there! Many consider 220 borderline for total CHOL.

However.....if you are worried about Heart Disease (CVD etc)...then consider having your homocsysteine levels check.....or a much better indicator than a lipid panel (25% w/o high CHOL have/get heart disease, is C-reactive protein. :D (inexpensive too)

Also consider fish oil, flax oil, and regualr niacin (never sustained release, careful with that) :D

I do take 3 fish oil caps daily. Each softgel has 1000mg Natural Fish Oil Concentrate (EPA 180mg and DHA 120mg.) Is 3 daily enough?

I saw that post. I plan to discuss other testing with my doc at my next appt! I noted there that my mom is a perfect example of this! Her cholesterol was in a perfect range and still had an emergency triple bypass!

I read that increasing fiber dietary will lower cholestrol. Metamucil is one of the best in town and flax seed oil, or good fat GARLIC too should be included or the pill might help if the odor is a problem.

Flax oil!................

what....................?

Every one need good fats to be able get rid of the bad ones then the dietary fiber is the main doctor to be able combat the cholestrol.(Lets get it right.........okay) You cannot be taken fiber without eliminating the ugly one first and the flax seed oil or whatever good fat will be the assistance. Thank you guys no more debate. It is up to you the gurus, I am going for a walk round the block.

just keep in mind that dietary cholesterol isn't goin' to have any noticable effect on your hdl/ldl levels. So going for a low cholesterol diet isn't gonna make a dent in the situation.

take salmon pills or flax seed oil pills (1000mg) to lower your cholesterol (LDL). Reduce your animal fats and oils etc.. Make sure its rich in Omega 3-6...
