I was just reading in another forum not to arch the lower back when doing standing (in the thread it was about DB presses, but same thing) military presses. That makes perfect sense to me, but I still have a problem: my head gets in the way of the olympic bar. I feel the only way I can perform the movement with a full range of motion is to pull my head back slightly (which inadvertently arches my back slightly).
I haven't experienced any lower back pain (as the other member was commenting on) in doing this exercise, but if this is wrong I'd like to correct it.
Does anyone have suggestions as to how I can perform this exercise properly without arching my back (or hitting my head on the way down)?
And, in case anyone suggests trying DB presses, I also do those, but in my other program. I switch between two programs every three weeks. Standing military press replaces DB presses as my first shoulder exercise. I find I can't lift as much as in DB presses, but I enjoy the full body effort.
