Hey I was told by a buddy of mying that having your feet fairly close together can be very damaging to the knees. I work the front of my legs more by using a close stance, but if its going to damage my knees its probably not worth it. How truthful is this that close stance damages knees.

I would believe if you use good form and not heavy weight you should be ok.

he is correct, and you are not working the "front of your legs' anymore by using a close stance.

always use a shoulder width stance with toes pointed slightly outward.

it is much harder to squat like that. It is n't damaging to the knees though. I do some re-hab work for physical therapists and frequntly, if they send me someone with patela-femoral syndrome they want that person leg pressing with a close stance to try and get the patela to track more medially. it is hard ot squat narrow stance but it wont hurt your knees. The only problem I see you having is that getting into the hole with a narrow stance can be tricky on your spine as you are going to need some killer flexability to be abld to prevent excessive flexion of the spine.
