I have a few questions on comp dieting. I'm about 6.5 weeks out, and I have a few things in my diet that I'd like to know when, if at all, to drop them. I'm just trying to think of anything that may hinder my progress.

Splenda - 6 packets a day (for coffee and oatmeal)
FF coffee mate - 1 tsp a day in coffee
Heavy cream - 1 tsp a day in oatmeal
Olive oil - tiny bit used sometimes on chicken or broccolli
SF ketchup or barbeque sauce - sometimes on chicken or lean beaf
Soy sauce - low sodium kind, used sometimes on chicken
Chipotle hot sauce

Protein shakes - I have one with my eggs and oatmeal in the am, one PWO, and a blended protein shake before bed. I know some people drop shakes and use only real food at some point in comp dieting.

Creatine & Glutamine - I'm using 5 g creatine with my PWO shake, and 10 g of glutamine first thing am. Should either of these be dropped at some point?

I would drop the cream and coffee mate right away. I used Splenda up through my contests. Soy Sauce is fine, and I actually oversalted my foods through most of my pre-contest phase so when I depleted sodium it would have more of an affect.

Well, I normally oversalt my foods, I just like it that way! I can drop the cream, no problem. But now I'll have to drop my morning coffee too because I can't drink it black. No creamer sucks! Maybe I can learn to like it, like I did broccolli.

Did you use protein shakes until your comp?

How do you have your last week outlined?

Can't drink coffee with just some splenda?

I had shakes until a week before, but generally only PWO.

I don't really know about my last week yet. I asked my trainer about sodium/water/carb loading for the last week, and she said we'll have to see how my progress is. I also asked her about a practice run of the last week and she said she's never had to do one before.

I've always used creamer in my coffee, don't think I'll like it black. But I will try it, or just not have coffee :) .

FF coffee mate - 1 tsp a day in coffeecut the last week too
Heavy cream - 1 tsp a day in oatmealsee how you look at 4 weeks, holding water cut it then.
Olive oil - tiny bit used sometimes on chicken or broccolliswitch to Pam, they have one that is Olive Oil as well.
SF ketchup or barbeque sauce - sometimes on chicken or lean beafwhat is the carb content?
Soy sauce - low sodium kind, used sometimes on chickencut the last week
Chipotle hot saucewhat's in it?

drop these the last two weeks, switch to real food if you can. If not at least the last 7 days
Creatine & Glutamine - I'm using 5 g creatine with my PWO shake, and 10 g of glutamine first thing am. Should either of these be dropped at some point?I don't use these so have no answer on these. :)

My answers are in bold. :)

oh...cut the coffee the last week too. Only water.

Thanks Jodie. I think the carb content in the sf ketchup and barbeque sauce is like 1 or 2 per tbsp. I don't use it that often and not much of it when I do. I'll probably just cut that the last couple of weeks, like everything else!

Hey Jodie, you said to cut the olive oil. Are fish oil caps the best way to get fat pre comp? You do still need some fat in the diet, do you not?

I do take fish oils. Usually 6 per day

Good, that's what I'm doing too, 6 fish oils per day, which makes up most of my fats.

just be really strick now so when its unbearable later on, youll be able tohave that one cashew...to get you through

Yeah, I'm trying to be as clean as possible since I'm almost 6 weeks out. But I also don't want to kill myself with bland boring food needlessly, ya know?

Oh, and I had black coffee this morning with splenda only. It actually wasn't as bad as I had anticipated.

try Hood's Carb Countdown in the coffee, just a lil bit will do it. and after awhile of really bland food, you get used to it. then, your able to spice it up and it actually tastes good, you feel kinda guilty. ive had nothing but eggwhites and tuna mixed together for 3 days now, but i love it. cant get enough, hot sauce and garlic make it so good

i think you should go for the bland food now so your used to it. it just makes it easier for when you HAVE to be strick. i guess thats what im trying to say

Depending on how you do your last week, food doesn't have to be bland and boring. Just the last week.

Well, honestly the bland food doesn't bother me so much. If I have salt, pepper, and garlic, I'm good. It's just the little extra stuff, like I listed at the beginning of this post, that I wasn't so sure about. I didn't list it earlier, but I also eat 1 tbsp of natty PB with my bed time shake. Should I drop that and just stick with the fish oils? It's calculated into my daily fats, but it's so good it feels like a little cheat each night after a clean day.

Hey, what wanna ask you is, HOW DO YOU LOOK @ THIS MOMENT? After that I may have some suggestions. What I've come to learn you don't always have to cut things out because ultimatley it comes down to how you look BEFORE you peak which you should start about 2 weeks out. I never have people cut things out for the simple fact that if your body is accustomed to a certain stimilus, cutting that said stimulus will usually cause a drastic rebound effect i.e. cutting coffee made me very bloated, and I had terrible withdrawls. 1 week later for the next show I added everything I cut (it wasn't only coffee I cut) and I came in much harder and fuller and went from 3rd to 1st. I think alot of the "urban" legends come from guys and women alike who need to combat pharmeceutical side effects to get rid of water and maintain fullness. ITS ALL ABOUT HOW YOU LOOK BEFORE YOU PEAK> "YOUR TRAINER JUST MAY BE CORRECT"
