crossfit "competition"

Give DOMS a month of overhead squatting and he will kick both of those amateurs... the guy did not even do one proper one- what a joke.

That womans form was nice, I'm sure she could have done 30.

why anyone would do OH squats to failure like that is beyond me. You are just opening yourself up to shoulder problems by trying to stabilize weight in that position.

I thought the same thing... but then I applied this training to my own personal experiences....

In a controlled weight training environment it's easy to regulate your sets and repetitions to around fatigue.

However, in REAL LIFE engagements (where your very life literally depends on it) things happen at an explosive pace. And whether you're tired or not, the fight continues.

Seriously... I think training under these conditions can do wonders for my combat sustainability of me and my squad on the battle field.

I guess this is why Crossfit was designed with military and law enforcement in mind.

1) yes it could potentially have value.

2) what good is training if you get hurt in the gym? Sounds like a shitty program to me. The goal of training is to help you prevent injury, not create them.

Agreed, the purpose of training is to enhance performance in competition. If you are getting surgery on a fucked up shoulder, knee, hip, etc..., you won't be competing.

IOW, what good is an athlete who can squat 300lbs 50 times if his back is always fucked up? I get the instant gratification in feeling like you busted your ass training, but long term is more important, IMO.

True. I probably wouldn't attempt OH Squats to failure like that but I don't see that much inerrant risk in something like say... Pull-ups to failure? Sit-ups to failure? Air Squats to failure?

I find the intensity of this training to be extremely rewarding. But then, it's new to me so it may wear off after a while. We'll see :)

oh yea, pull ups, push ups, sit-ups, BW squats. No problem. There are just some exercises that have a great risk that reward.....OH squatting to failure being one of them.

Dude, you should see the team.

Check out their website.

Along the right edge are several videos of Crossfit Training sessions. "Nasty Girls" and "Crossfit Housewives" are among the best!

I'm not sure how much homework you guys have done, but if you at all looked at how many people have been injured doing a overhead squat after having proper instruction of technique then i wouldn't think you'd be making ignorant claims that this is going to give you shoulder and knee problems later in life... the OH Squat is a remarkable movement for core strength and i suggest you learn it and begin to incorporate it into your training regimen...
