I've got a dilema. I am definitly a "hard-gainer" when it comes to my calves. Just when I am more determined than ever to make them respond, my feet are showing signs of damage. At first I didn't know what was causing the pain in the ball of my left foot until I started feeling it in the other foot as well. Any suggestions?

I get this too, but more in the arch area. Do you have high arches? Have you tried new shoes?

Yes, I have high arches and yes, I have new shoes, but it would be hard to convince me that these comfortable new sneakers are the problem. The main thing that has changed is my intesity and determination. Vieope, how long have you been training? What makes you think something is wrong with my form?

I had the same problem, dstack. It was really getting me down for a while. I think it was arthritis because as soon as the Glucosamine/Chondriton I was taking kicked in, the pain went away. Worth looking into.

High reps + drop sets seem to work well for my calves.

Sounds like a nerve issue, but others will know better. I am carefull with my foot positioning and I often have to re-position around the 10-15th rep. If it hurts to use a full drop range of motion, then avoid it.

my calves are naturally ridiculous. anyone else have this problem?

Define "ridiculous". Are u saying they grow ridiculously easy?

Yea, I have been taking Glucosamine/Chondriton for about a year and it has helped with my knees. I have slacked off on the G/Ch, I'll pick up the dose and see if it helps. Glad to hear someone else had that problem.

Sorry for late response, but it may be caused by high arches.. thats why I asked. I have the same problem. If you find a cure hit me up.

I doubt its from lack of glucoseamine chondroitin. I am always on that plus MSM.

Thanks PreMier. Glad to know that this is not unusual. I have had to lay off the calves for a week and I'm feeling better, just worried about how to progress with my calves if this continues to plague me. I look forward to finding a solution if there is one.

Best suggestion that I can offer, is lighten the weight. Do higher reps like 50+ or so.

Not for a long time, I am a newbie.
If it is not your form, what else could be wrong?

I just dont understand how you could have bad form on calve raises

I think the pain is caused by heavier than needed weight. Might also have to do with high arches.

It is not high arches since he seems experient in bodybuilding and he never had that problem.
Of course it is possible to have bad form with calve raise. Calf press isn´t that different and because of the weight and bad form people get injured easily. Strained muscles, pain in the foot..

Hey PreMier, I agree. I might try using higher reps and lower weight.

High reps, low weight. Drop sets, super sets. Umm.. Hold the movement at the peak contraction. There is no need to bounce the weight, enless your like at the end of the set and you wanna throw in some partials to burn them bitches.

Glad I read this thread. I have been having the same problems with the ball of my feet. I think I have been using too much weight as I notice noone else in the gym is using near as much as I am when doing calves.
