idk if this has been covered but the average woman cannot achieve the amount of hypertrophy that the average man can...that being said a woman doing dead lifts with the proper body mechanics will get strengthen the muscles involved ...ie "tone" them.
Implying that women cane only "tone" their muscles is offensive. Women can build muscle. I've known some very accomplished female lifters, including a world-champion in the squat in her weight class, and a young woman I attended college with who eventually took 4th in the Olympia. Both women had tremendous muscularity. Women can not build muscle as easily as men, but they can sure as hell do a lot more than tone their muscles, especially if they use compound movements like the deadlift. When I worked as a trainer, women were always worried about gaining too much bulk, and my pat answer was don't worry, it takes tremendous desire and dedication for women to gain substantial muscle. But if you work hard enough, it is very possible.
I find it hilarious when a fat chick comes into my gym, hires me as the trainer, and then says, I dont want to look like a man with big muscles or a man neck...my response in my head is then why did you gain 500lbs, douchebag? I say publicly, dont worry, we're going to "resculpt the body". They hear this and they cum in their granny panties.
