I would bet they used the medical system. I know the employer paid a good bit of medical bills but I'd bet the local hospital system wrote off a good bit of money from them. I guess when I was talking about how some Mexicans pay some taxes, I failed to mention every other part of their life and comment on it.

I posted this on another site, and in a short time a friend of mine did this with it. His respsonses are in bold.

A quick ripping apart:

It's good to know that desperation is a valid excuse to violate the laws (of another country at that!). Perhaps they should stay in their country and build it up rather than going to another country and bringing it down?

He's telling us to accept and treat illegal immigrants fairly, yet here he's using them as low wage tools for his own advancement. We've already covered his hypocrisy.

I would bet most illegal mexicans are completely off the system. These guys got a W-2 and paid FICA b/c the employer wanted no trouble with the gov'ment....then got trouble anyway.

Your employer hired illegals, and knew they were illegal. I hope he lost his company, and is now living in a card board box.

I used to do the payroll for a guy whose workforce was 90% illegal mexicans. We ran the payroll like anyone else would but they all had their exemptions at 10 so they had no income tax wihheld. However they did pay FICA and the employer paid FICA.

As a result, most of those guys paid MORE in tax than they would if they were legal and filed a tax return. Why? The Earned Income Credit. They could not file and take the credit that generates HUGE refunds for working poor families.

It was a hell of a good paying client until the IRS came in at the request of the SSA b/c so many Social Security Numbers were bad. To make a long story short the IRS shut them down. I had a clear conscience working on this b/c 1) they were paying FICA, more FICA than American working similar jobs and 2) they were plucking chickens. At least around here, no one was out of job b/c of them.

I have alot of clients involved in things that I find questionable. I have had strippers as clients. I am not bothered by this, but my partners were. What is somewhat amusing, if I posted that I was firing a client b/c I felt what he was doing was wrong, you'd call me religious zealot who was imposing my sense of morals on everyone else.


I did quit doing the payroll several years before he gave it up. Everytime I filed his W-2s, I got a letter from the SSA. Decided that we should not be involved.

However, if you assume the facts are as I stated, who was harmed by these guys? They were paying tax, they were plucking chickens when BMW was hiring every able-bodied person. All of the BMW-support companies were hiring. Unemployment was ridiculously low.

While I agree with you (or this letter,) my personal situation makes me think this situation is a little more complicated than just kicking all of the illegals out.

I would imagine everyone at this board has purchased something from Wal-Mart or many other of the mass poroducers that not only hire illegals, but outsource jobs to foreign countries in order to save a buck. Not to mention purchased Nike shoes from sweat shop kids. I don't see how one could be against one but not the other. Personally, I don't care if a kid assembled my shoes for a dollar, or my gardener hires illegals. If it's going to save me a buck in the end, I am fine with it.
