decline.....bench

Ay, Walt, ya need to lay off the declines, unless you want droopy pecs. Ya need to work the upper pecs! What do ya do on the incline bench?

did 225 20 times because I was trying to beat a record which I did. Iclines I can do 255 for 5, and regular bench 315 for 2, 275 for 7, almost eight and 340 easy money

Me and MBC mountain biked around the local reservoir in personal best time, 68 minutes.

I sprinted up and down a hill for an hour yesterday.

Nope. It's a lot of uphill climbing, which hurts like hell (almost puked from it once). Once you get to the "top", it's a lot of rough downhill terrain. Rocks, logs, streams. An hour of that and we are usually pretty exhausted. Lots of fun though! I just bought a new bike and we're getting MBC one in a the next few days.

EDIT: Pemburu, I get it. (pardon me...I'm a little slow)

IAB,
I'm still using my Diamondback Apex I got back in '90. Lived in Alaska then and did a lot of riding around Kodiak Island. Understand about the puking part. One ride I used to do was 28 min up hill, half the time on the "granny" sprocket. It was a 3 min. ride back down. I guess I should thank God I'm still alive after those rides. Most of the time coming back down you were vibrating and bouncing so much you really couldn't see what you were doing.
Have a great time and enjoy.

We had a new guy try out for our grappling classes yesterday. He spent a half hour afterwards puking in the sink

Walter I can`t believe anyone would be jealous of someone they don`t know.If you want to list personal best that`s fine, some people will be impressed and others won`t give a sh?t. Some of us try for personal best and others just try for strict form with lower weights. Myself I workout at home without a training partner so personal best are not an option. So if you want to list personal best just be prepared for opinions from both sides of the coin.

I keep hearing everyone raving over declines, soooo...it was chest day today, and guess what I decided to do? Yup, declines.

I have to confess...I did them also. I did BB declines. It's a little intimidating to do with no spotter. I hate getting close to failure and having to put it back on the rack above my forehead.

I then went to dumbbell inclines and increase the incline until I was doing a shoulder workout. That way I felt better about skipping inclines, because I didn't.

Still waiting and watching for the drooping pecs.

If it's Yea Rah Rah you want, you are in the right place. But be careful how you approach it "did 225*20 and 340 easy " sounds arrogant.

How can I possibly be jealous?

Main Entry: jeal·ous
Pronunciation: 'je-l&s
Function: adjective
Etymology: Middle English jelous, from Old French, from (assumed) Vulgar Latin zelosus, from Late Latin zelus zeal -- more at ZEAL
Date: 13th century
1 a : intolerant of rivalry or unfaithfulness b : disposed to suspect rivalry or unfaithfulness
2 : hostile toward a rival or one believed to enjoy an advantage
3 : vigilant in guarding a possession <new colonies were jealous of their new independence -- Scott Buchanan>

Jealous, I am not.

I think I speak for all of us when I say, "good job."

Walt, if you want to decline, then decline. This is for Pemburu and TheSupremeBeing: declines work the lower pecs, inclines the upper. In my humble opinion, filling in the upper pecs leads to a more impressive looking chest. Therefore, now follow me gentlemen, if ya have more lower chest mass then upper, ya get droopy pecs. Get it?

Sorry Prince, you don't have to wait till 50 to get them. Those Droopy things that is.

Latinheat, I never did declines until recently and .....I'm ashamed to say it....but...I think I've already got them.(DPs) There I said it. I've confessed the deep dark secret. Therefore IMHO, I believe it's more of a genetic thing, not a decline thing.

Please don't get Mr. TSB on speed here about hitting the chest from all the angles, what will build the upper, lower, this fiber, that fiber, incline this, decline that.....please have mercy on us all and stop while there's still some bandwidth on the web.

Yeah, I don't feel like going through this again.

Suffice to say that Latino is 100% wrong and you won't get "droopy" pecs from doing decline presses and using different angles on a bench does not target different areas of the chest. In actuality your "upper" chest will grow more from declines than inclines.

I just get amused now....believe what ya want.

I prefer to believe what is empirically, personally, and scientifically correct.....rather than just what I want....oh how much I want it to be true that I can change the shape of my muscles....

I feel ya, TSB. You sound like ya know quite a bit, I also have read that you cannot change the shape of a muscle beyond genetics. But you would agree with me that there are well known trainers in bodybuilding that say you can, would you not?

As far as muscle shaping goes there aren't many....as far as emphasizing different heads of muscles there are a few. And guess what? I AGREE! Yes, you can emphasize different heads of muscles (in terms of greater shortening of said fibers, but this does not mean more force will be exerted with these fibers, so I don't think it matters, but that;s their point of view), but you cannot isolate (due to how they are innervated - think "wired") them and the emphasis of one head over another isn't significant enough to cause dispropriotate growth. note my before/after picture example....

TSB just backed off of one of his long held opinions. WOW. But now he has lost all credibility for doing so, how can I take advice from someone who might give me different advice on different days.

I think what he is talking about is hitting different heads of muscles with different exercises.

In the past you said that it was impossible to isolate different heads of the quads. You said that a squat or any other exercise hits your quad the same, period.

I said that you could put more stress on the inner, outer, etc., and you it was physically impossible.

Remember?
