Hey there,
I have a question someone might be able to help me with... I have been on a workout schedule for a while and have always had access to a nice gym with all the equipment imaginable. Recently, I have had to buy my own bench (full incline and decline) with no rack for a barbell, for the purpose of using Dumbells exclusivly for bench excerises. My problem is I have a fairly nice set of standard threaded dumells, which arent flat on the ends (threaded rod, hard to rest on knees), and I cant seem to get into the declined postion efficiently with them because of the extruding bar and even more-so not being unable to get in the position with 50lbs in each hand without being in danger of getting hurt. The weight I can get into the position in easily is far far less than I need to be pressing.... Any ideas on method on how to do this efficiently? Any help would be great.....

Damn..... thats a hard one
Can you put something beside the bench on each side to sit the db's on while you get into position?? Like some milkcrates or something??
I am guessing you bought the bench for use at your house?

Try getting two towes and placing them on your knees then put the DB's on em. Once you kick the DB's up you don't put them back on your knees once the set is over so you wont need to worry about where the towels go.

You could role them length wise to form like a log then make the ends meet so you have a dougnut shaped item that the weight just sits in, and the tip of the bar sits in the voided area of the towel while the towel supports the weight and keeps the bar from hitting your knees.

Well, I took two old threaded bolts that were to secure the weight on the bar, and cold welded a quarter on each of em, thereby making them end caps, then took some old socks and duct-tape and made a sizeable pad....then ducktaped it to the the end caps, now i have comfortable, instant endcap-pads that just screw on.... but i still can't seem to get in the decline position, I may have to make some kind of apparatus to hold them in prone position already declined, but if there is an easier way, I would preffer it.

milk crates MAY work but it just seems like the form factor of actuall getting a grip once your declined might not be so favorable.... but I will try if i can find some,
any other ideas accepted as well.....

Tell you i had the same problem and now have the cure. I took 2 6"x6"x3/4 plywood. I glued velcro straps to them. now i put them on my theighs and rest the dumbbells on them. no more problems for this old man. Take it back, I think I tore a right tendon in my left wrist yesterday swinging 80 lb'ers back for incl presses. Anyways the boards work and are cheap
