diet soda as a rare treat?

I have alot of respect for scientists, how ever many times I do not trust the conclusions that people/organizations take from scientists results. Basically everything except purified water causes cancer. People today are obsessed and paranoid about the small things in our lives and forgets about the big picture.
We can not drink soft drinks because there is aspartame in it.
The No.1 killer in the US is obesity, over 3 million people die every year from eating too many calories in this country, if 50 people died from aspartame poisoning, but 2.999 million people live because they cut out some sugars from their diet, then it is worth it. A product can be 10% bad, but 90% good. It is the big picture that counts. It is more likely to get lung cancer from dangerous exhaust fumes coming from cars than if you smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, if you live close to a metropolitan area in the US. Yet they are banning smoking everywhere but do nothing about cars, because it would hit the oil industry hard.
We can not eat chicken because there is arsenic in it, we can not eat red meat because it has estrogen and other hormones in it(very bad if you are lifting weights), we can not drink milk because it has milk promoting hormones in it, we can not drink tap water because it has clorine in it, killing your beneficial bacterias in your stomach. Basically 99% of everything you put in your mouth will kill you, or will it? and how likely is it?..to a scientist even a .005% chance is considererd a chance, you make the conclusion yourself. This is just a general rant, not aimed at anyone :)

Wheete, don't bring hormones in beef up or I'll go off right now on that, biotech, irradiated food, etc... I'm serious.

but I agree that science is flawed.

(I'll take a cc of BST right frickin' now and prove that one moot. and estrogen won't be absorbed through food.)

Burner and Cornfed you two are too funny! :)

Sometimes you wonder whether its one industry putting out controversial info against the other. Sugar vs Aspartame. Milk vs Soy industry, Beef vs Pork, etc.

wheete, lot of interesting points here to ponder, hmmmm! I think it's all personal choice and what we are here to do. Some of us here are training for competition and need to eat as clean as possible. Other, like moi, are here for general health and well-being and have the opportunity to indulge once in a while. I usually just drink water or seltzer. Only maybe once a week I'll indulge in Diet Coke when we go out to eat. Great article DP!

I drink 128 oz of diet coke every day. I now this is bad but hey, I love my diet coke. besides is doesn't put on any fat like other beverages. the only concern is the sodium and the levels are minimal so i wouldn't be concerned.

"Alex, I'd like to try Calcium Loss for $1000 please"

OK, here is the answer, "One of the fastest ways to leach Calcium out of your body!"

Gee Alex, I'm stumped, Could it be Phosphoric acid?

-"I'll take the Rapists for 200."
-"No Mr Connery, that's therapists, not the rapists"
-"French Stewart, you wrote 'threeve.' Let's see what you've wagered...Texas w/ a $sign. Wonderful"
-"Moo"
:D

How's that for empirical data! :p LOL You are right about that, though DP. But moderation isn't gonna kill ya'. :)

i've never been good at moderation. ask my mom if you don't believe me....obviously personal choice here. we've got the facts. from what i've read i'm not going to drink 'em. but at least i'm not bossy (spazz yes. bossy no.) do what you do!

not dew as in mountain dew. thanks for the info Dr. Pain!
