I swear if I hear the word pump again on IM these days I'm going to kill myself.

pump pump pump pump pump!!!!

you got a problem with getting pumped?.... it may be temporary but it feels good and lets you know you are working hard!

I think that, properly done, V-bar dips are one of the best chest exercises in existence ...a lost "secret" of productive training -- parallel bar dips can't come close for chest stimulation. As far as triceps are concerned though, V-bar Dips won't really cut it.

Dips are amazing for upper body growth and always seemed to benefit my pecs a great deal if I leaned into them. However, they can bother the shoulder and I have a torn labrum on my left and bursitus on my right so unfortunately I cannot dip anymore.

I like them but since I hurt my shoulder, I use less weight and concentrate on
form. 8 seconds down, no pause, 8 seconds up.

The 8 seconds down is fine, but why the hell would you want to train your body that it is ok to lift your weight that slowly? Explosive on the way up, slow and controlled on the way down imo.

Feels good, yes. Lets you know you are working hard, no. Pump is just what it is..pump. It is meaningless. It doesn't tell you anything other than lots of blood has filled up an area and is making the skin tight. You can work hard and never see pump. You can workout terribly in a fashion that will never produce gains and get lots of pump.

I think the pump has some value - not in building muscle as such, but in stretching the connective tissues around the muscle (perimysium, endomysium, epimysium, etc). ...and if you have difficulty getting a muscle to pump it almost certainly means that you're not recruiting it properly (assuming you're eating right, using the appropriate rep range, etc).
