no way man snoop has gotta be like 120

I was wondering, if bulking, is 15 mins of cardio (threadmill) twice a week good for flattening that stomach??

I say cardio all the time only because that is what it takes to keep the fat off of me.

Thanks everyone

Hi guy's. As a relative newbie to the gym and all things BB, I have to say that I have always done cardio to keep myself in shape. Round is a shape, isn't it? Seriously, I have always done some type of cardio, cycling, running and the like. I currently do cardio twice a week and weights three times a week, for the last 8 weeks. Currently working out doing something physical from Mon-Fri. All I can say is I have never felt better. Yep Cardio sucks, but I know it's doin me good. For those that hate cardio, go and buy an MP3 player, fill it full of yer fave high tempo music and lose yourself in the rhythm. Works a treat and your heart will thank you eventually.

Just my 10c worth.

Jav

If I don't do some carido I really feel it. Even when bulking up I try and do 1hr of cardio per week.

funny its seems like alot of you are outta shape.

hearts wise that is. Just like all the other muscles you work out, the heart is also a muscle. And like your arms and leg can hit a catabolic state. And if your heart rate is around 170 (holy shit that is high) it probably is going to be in a catabolic state.

Its really important to strength the heart, and weight lifting doesn't do that (arnold had two heart surgeries you know). Best way to do this is on a treadmill, ellipical, or bike, where you can monitor your heartrate. You usually wanna shot a number between 130 to 145 and keep it at the rate for 10 to 25 minutes. Not too long or else you'll be at a catabolic rate again. The best measure is to listen to your body.

Do a test, and put a heartbeat monitor on while you workout. (the chest strap ones). About mid way threw take a reading. If the number is high (180s) and you hadn't done any squads or deadlifts, then you need to stop weightlifting and strengthen your heart. Done be too surprized many top olympic atheletes have heart problems, why cause they push their bodies and their heart can't keep up.

Best way to solve this is to take about 3 months and do cardio every week with a 1 to 2 day rest peroid. You can weight lift, only if its light weight, high reps, controlled movement, and never where you have to catch your breath at the end of the set.

After that go back to weight lifting and measure your heart again and make a call if you need to do more cardio or not.

Wtf...

I'm doing two sessions a week now, clean cardio (do a search on Avant Labs, GREAT form of cardio, not boring at all and kicks your ass more than any cardio you've ever forced yourself to go through). I also like 400m sprints and sled-dragging...as you can see I'm not an advocate of long cardio at all, detest it.

Peace.

Arnold was juiced to the brim for a LONG time. I'd attribute that to his first heart surgery. And I'd attribute his pig valves to his second surgery. But whatever. Likewise, the vast majority of Olympic athletes are on steroids as well, as revealed by the "THG scandal."

But to do GPP would accomplish the same thing, with the other added benefits that have been mentioned lately.

I'd also like to know how weight training does not have cardiovascular benefits. Do you not feel your pulse pounding after a hard set of deads, cleans, snatches, presses or squats?

Peace.

taken from the 8th edition ISSA text:

Aerobic fitness is achieved by raising your heart rate.

Not true. Aerobic fitness is attained when you elevate the metabolic rate and oxygen consumption of your muscles and you sustain the elevation sufficiently long enough to overload your aerobic enzyme systems. Heart rate is only an external indication of oxygen consumption. Sustained metabolism is the cause of aerobic fitness; heart rate is only a byproduct of the process.

I have not "upgraded" to the 8th edition yet, I can only view the text online, but I want to spend the $150 and get the 8th edition and the new DVD.

I also went to the seminar with Tom Platz for my ISSA certification, he talks quite a bit about Fred, they trained together in the past...good stuff!

That is why soccer players who train in high altitudes are better in aerobic exercises.

I do cardio because I don't feel like I'm really in shape if I can't sprint well. In my opinion an athletic person should be strong AND fast. It is not an easy balance, but it can be done.
