hi all, as part of my daily calories counting, i always include the calories stated on the tub for the proteins i take. for example, my average intake is 2000kcals a day. i have 2 scoops of whey in the morning @ 175kcals, same again just after training and 153kcals of casein just before bed. in total 453kcals ar being consumed via protein supplements and the remainder is from quality food. do you include the calories from whey/casein when counting? am i going about my nutrition the wrong way? (i'm trying to cut at the moment)

Of course you count them. Any calorie is one you have to burn off.

...seems like a stupid question really doesn't it! lol

Focus on the macronutrients of your food, not just the total calories -- the total calories will fall into place. Keeping track of the macronutrients will give you a better picture of the makeup of your diet.

2000 cals a day? Unless you're a 120 lb female, or on a serious cut, you need to get that closer to 3000 at least. That's assuming you want to gain muscle.

I absolutely count whey protein calories, they can add up. Of course you should try to get the majority of your calories from whole foods.

saf im connecting some dots here you said kcals.... that diff measurement than cal which are you saying when you say 2000 a day ?
2000 kcals or 2000 calories
its like saying inches to centimetres

i never count cals from shakes, neither does any of my bb friends, we just drink them for a flavored drink with our meals. they were never meant to replace real food..

^^^^^^ This. BTU's in - BTU's out. Especially if you are trying to lean out.

marat, i'm going to take your advice but i need to first understand about the concept of macronutrients and how to record the info. i'll do a little research on the net.

diesel, as i've mentioned, my goal is to cut first then mass up. i'm lifting at the moment but also cardio'ing to get to my preferred weight.

superlift.. agreed!

fraseram, it's 2000 calories love.

i've hit a bit of a plateau and although i know 2000 cals will help me lose fat, i'm struggling to lose any more. in your experience, would you say it gets harder to lose fat?

I think what is happening is that your body is fighting the low calories and hanging on to its fat and mass in order to preserve
it like hibernation for your body ..... it all slows down
you can do one of two things here
one.... keep with it bc your body will eventually give in and you will start losing again
two.... try a cycled calorie diet alternating between high mod and low calories to keep your body guessing to break the plateau now
so move from say 3200 one day then 1700 the next and 2300 another rotating between the three

hey fraseram, you make some interesting points. have you actually tried your recommended methods in practice or is there anyone else who is reading this thread that has gone down this route?

the thing is, as with anything, one can swap and change constantly and give yourself enough time to see if what you're doing is working or not. maybe the next question should be: "how long should one stick to a diet or plan before deciding to change?"

Whats your bf% now compared to when you started? Are you checking it weekly.... What kind of goals do you have? Are you doin cardio, if so increase your time till you get to around 45min a day then increase your intensity. Eat lots of lean meats and leafy veggies throughout the day to keep your metabolism high.
