Got my first bike 15 years ago, have a Sportster now, have taken the motorcycle safety course multiple times - first to learn and then to refresh my skills - but still have found myself pulling out when a motorcycle is there.

The one time I thought the bike's headlight was a street lamp in the distance - no lie. :(

No accidents suffered or caused, but the one biker laid on his horn and iirc gave me the finger. Justified at that.

Pennsylvania has the safety course for free. They also offer an experienced rider course.

I used to.
Until I almost was killed twice by car drivers with no respect, maybe a hate, for motorcycles.

Never got into road bikes, but I used to tear up trails in my 125YZ.

I ride as often as I can. My ride is a '97 Suzuki Bandit 1200. I'm the original owner, too. Fantastic bikes!

Ride a Buell xb12s. There have been so many bike accidents around here lately it has worried me about riding.

You bet I ride.
Hence my handle I currently have a roadking classic and just love this bike.
I bought it new in 2001 and just yesterday turned over 74,000 miles on it. We went to a old motorcycle museum and then cruise up to lake michigan and checked out some dunes and the water was beautiful and clear.
I have been on harleys since 1974 and had most models. This particular harley has taken me through canada three times, all down through the south, blueridge parkway three times, niagra falls twice so I guess it would be easier to ask what states I havent been to on this bike.
My current avatr is my bike.
I worry about other drivers from time to time but for me it's a way of life.
Ya'll be safe and get some miles in.

I would love to get a custom bike for weekend cruises, but wife would kill me before I even got my first booboo from riding lol!

Protective clothing, a full-face helmet, and some good old fashioned SIPDE!

  • S--Sweep, Search, and Scan (keep your eyes moving at all times to effectively see imminent danger)You should search a minimum of 25 to 30 seconds down the roadway.
  • I--Identify hazards, Identify what's happening 12 to 15 seconds in front of you. (road-way features) (take notice of things that could cause trouble).
  • P--Predict which hazards could potentially come into conflict with you; predict 2 things 1-worst case scenario and 2-actions.
  • D--Decide 3 to 5 seconds in advance on a safe action (decide on something to do should the dog run across the road) decide on the path that will put you in the least amount of danger.
  • E--Execute that safe action; use communication; confidently execute the maneuver.
