I won't state an age but I'll say this much. Is there an age that is too young to lift? The answer is yes. Reason is because the body is still growing which entails your joints and ligaments. They say that weightlifting at too early an age can cause damage to those joints and growing ligaments. My best advise is to ask "your" doctor and don't go by second hand advise(your friend).Originally posted by BirdyBirdMan

I find it utterly rediculous that people still rely on a family practice doctor for their diet and fitness advice.
There are some doctors that are educated in nutrition and even bodybuilding, but there are very few.
Just because you have a degree in medicine (MD) does not qualify you as a nutritionist or expert in weight training by any measure.
In means that you are an expert in MEDICINE. So if you have a question that relates to medicine, ask your doctor, if you need advice in weight training or diet, go to the experts in those fields.
sorry, that really had nothing to do with the original question, it just bugs me when people use their doctors as an expert source for everything.
